Another bat was flying around the house last night. I shooed him out with a broom. That's the 5th bat flying in me rooms since I moved here!

Yes, we do. We have them in our attic (it's a 100-year-old farm house and nowhere near animal-proof) and in the loft of the barn. They eat a lot of mosquitoes in the evenings.

I have a bat detector device that records their calls, makes them audible to humans, and identifies what species of bat it is. I run out there to check it out most evenings when we see the bats flying through the yard.

Our house was built in 1940. They live in the attic. I can hear them once in a while at night. Your right- they kill nasty bugs. I don't mind bats. But Tiana don't want them flying around the house-! I don't like them flyng around my head either! I don't kill them- I shoo them out with a broom.
Oddly- the 2 story house me and Tara Sue owned about 13 years ago was built in the 1860's- and we never had bats.

Not in our house. I did see a few flying around the neighborhood at dusk once.

There's a street light next to our firm and sometimes when I have night shift I sit outside and watch bats hunt insects flying around the light. I love bats but I wouldn't want any living inside my house. I'd call pest control for sure.

Not got any in my house (or any other houses I've lived in). In some ways, it would be a shame as I would appreciate the pest control. The bat pee and poop less so, and I doubt Kristi would be comfortable with such house guests. If you do get them roosting in the UK you are stuck with them as they are protected and you aren't allowed to mess with their nests.

Yeah, I was just reading up and they are protected here in Germany as well. Pest control won't remove them. If it is a severe case of bat infestation (which happens rarely) people should contact authorities. However, bats can't be captured and re-located so they will have to settle on some sort of arrangement, whatever that might be.

Our house is not infested- there's no guano in the attic. They do like to crowd around the yard light ( It's on a tall pole) in the backyard at night. The front porch light too. I know we got mice! They live in the basement and come up around the sink pipes. I've caught 7 in traps. I use peanut butter for bait.

Even that is not allowed according to bat-laws

You could get bitten (rabies) or you could kill the bat (fine) trying to shoo it out. They suggest closing doors and opening one window. The bat will eventually fly out by itself.

Here in Canada we mount "bat boxes" (basically birdhouses for bats) on the outside of buildings in appropriate locations to encourage the bats to move out of those buildings. When the bats have moved out of the building it can be sealed/bat-proofed to keep them out and the bats are still living in their home territory (IE not re-located.). Perhaps something like that is a possible solution?

here in kansas too, newt. there were several bathouses in my old hood, i miss them. we occasionally see a few here at the new place, but they don't like the traffic much, so they move on.
