3 punk rockers-Jon (2 AND A HALF MEN!) Cryer, Monster Kid Daniel Roebuck, and Flea (!), leave NYC on a road trip to California. Flea is killed by a group of crazy hillbillies (led by Lee Ving-lead singer of Fear!), and Jon and Dan get revenge. Jon keeps seeing visions of a Marlboro Man riding a horse who shows him where to go. His buddy Dan has visions of getting high with Indians. There's bar fights, punk rock, an Elvis impersonator who gives them some kind of peyote juice, and a spaghetti western showdown! I love it!

Saw the trailers for this when it first cam out & thought it was gonna be some low brow ripoff of National Lampoon's Vacation (1983)...........
Pretty poorly marketed, kinda like A Christmas Story when it first came out......

Wasn't until years later, when I was browsing the video store, & I happened to see the box with the tag line "The Easy Rider Of The '80s", & I got curious, so I read the back cover, which described something totally different from the trailers.

Actually turned out to be pretty good; The stomping soundtrack, the panoramic views, the action sequences, the dialogue & one liners.

It wasn't until the internet ten or fifteen years later that I learned they made a soundtrack.
At the time, I wound up spending a couple of years trexing down to this record store on the wrong side of town & trying to special order half the bands that that appeared on the soundtrack!

I was aware of the movie back in video rental days but I've never watched the film. Considering all the crap I rented I'm surprised I never gave this a go. I did pick up the vhs case many times and read the description but nothing about it screamed "rent me!" to me.
The IMDb rating doesn't really place it in the "bad movie" category, and not in the "great movie" category either. Anyway, maybe one day I'll give it a watch. As for now it is one of a few 1980s movies that for some reason never peaked my interest.

I thought Roebuck was cast well as the homicidal metalhead in the RIVER'S EDGE (1986).

i freaking love this movie! i watched all the time on tv growing up i even have it on VHS as well but it's been a few years since i last watched it .

River's Edge i remember nothing about it cause i thought it was just plain terrible. it's got a great cast don't get me wrong but the film was just simply painful to sit through. not as bad as O.C. And Stiggs (1985) though that one was even worse i have that one on VHS as well
