Yandere

Do you guys know what this is? Any examples of it in your own lives? I was only told about this Japanese term last night and it's been bouncing around in my head. I was aware of the concept, of course, but I didn't know it had a name or was apparently a genre in Japanese storytelling.

According to Google's definition: Yandere is a term used for a person who is initially loving and caring to someone they have a strong affection for until their romantic love, admiration, and devotion becomes feisty and mentally destructive in nature through either over protectiveness, violence, brutality or all three combined.

Huh, I wonder if that weird boy I knew in college named Ryan, the one who shoved me face-forward into my apartment wall would count? But he was never in a relationship with me, so that might disqualify him. He did go from tripping over himself being nice to me for weeks to doing that without warning though, which was disturbing.

It also disturbs me that I let him get away with doing that, but I find I often do let people get away with doing things to me, just not to those I care about.

Anyway, new concept that's been on my mind. (Ironically, the same person who told me about Yandere was the same one who last month told me about demi-sexuality, which also intrigued me.)

I never heard of it. And demi sexuality? How can you get past bi? Have sex with animals? I dunno.

I know, RC, i never heard of it either but it's a big thing in Japan, I gather. Almost like a sort of romance story.

Isn't "yandere" usually associated with female characters?  FATAL ATTRACTION might be an example.

From the little I have read since yesterday it's about male also, but Fatal Attraction would be a good example, you're right.

In fact, I just saw this on Google answers:
Oranyan is the term used for male tsundere. I'm not sure if there are other terms used for kuudere and yandere but all three are also applicable for male characters, though they are more common in females.

Fairly sure I'd heard of Yandere, but I'm not sure where.
