The Burgomaster

I always liked W.C. Fields. His movies were on TV from time to time when I was a kid and I thought they were funny. But for some reason I never owned many of his movies. In fact, until recently the only movie of his I had on DVD was "The Bank Dick." But over the past month or so I got "Fields Fever." I bought the following blu-rays (and have others in my Amazon "save for later" list).

* It's a Gift
* Never Give a Sucker an Even Break
* You Can't Cheat an Honest Man
* You're Telling Me

One of my favorite scenes is from "It's a Gift." Fields (as Harold Bissonette) is in the kitchen talking to his daughter. His wife is in the dining room.

Harold - "Listen, you've all got to realize one thing, [lowers his voice to almost a whisper] that I am the Master of this house."

Wife - "Harold!"

Harold (meekly) - "Yes dear!"

And in another scene:

Man: "You're drunk!"

Harold : "And you're crazy. But I'll be sober tomorrow and you'll be crazy for the rest of your life."

Funny guy. I'm looking forward to buying more.

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Rev. Powell

Love him. Particularly fond of "Never Give a Sucker an Even Break." For a lot of the rest of them, I tend to remember certain gags or one-liners, but not the whole movie.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

Dr. Whom

Same here. My favorite quote is from My Little Chickadee, where he is sitting in a saloon, dealing cards. A man approached the table and asks
-Is this a game of chance?
- Not the way I play it.
"Once you get past a certain threshold, everyone's problems are the same: fortifying your island and hiding the heat signature from your fusion reactor."

WC Field's was the star of INTERNATIONAL HOUSE (1933) with...yeah-you guessed it- Bela Lugosi!

That's Fields under the car. Bela is in back with the white Fedora.

Oh! Burns and Allen are on the roof!
Supernatural?...perhaps. Baloney?...Perhaps not!" Bela Lugosi-the BLACK CAT (1934)
Interviewer-"Does Dracula ever end for you?
Lugosi-"No. Dracula-never ends."

I remember a joke from International House

the doctor is looking for his stethoscope and asks the ditzy nurse: Nurse have you seen my stethoscope?

she goes "I'll look at it later"
