A Polygram dvd. (Read the Cockny dictionary. it helps). Starring : Some great cockny blokes. STUFF TO WATCH FOR! :: Hey, i could follow most of that! ----- Our "Heros". ----- Mr Exposision narrator man is very useful. ----- I'd say Willie samples waaaaay too much "Product". ----- Is this Take your son to crime day? ----- J.D. your son's a wanker. You have my sympethy. ----- Dave Lister? Well, he sounds like dave.... ----- Hatchet Harry : AKA Gurney Hallick in Dune. ----- Ah, the F word. As pinkard and Bowden called it, The Universal Adjuctive. ----- Nice doo, Kenny. ----- I hate card game scenes, cause i'm not good at card games. ----- Perfectly Understandable Vomit. ----- He beat him to death with a WHAT!?. ----- EXTREAM golf. ----- British Guns laws: They are to laugh. ----- Subtitles for cockney. Good idea. ----- Flame on! ----- Blade linght envy? ----- Yeah. Blade lingth envy alright. ----- Bren gun Vs. Air rifle. Lets see that on "American Shooter!" ----- Oh-ky,Thats more then 30 rounds from a partialy used 30 round magazine in the Bren. Too many! I'm counting, movie! ----- Traffic Wardens arn't too popular in the U.S, either... ----- 12 gage and .303. Two popular reasons Brit Guns laws are crap! ----- Ouch. You know, a red carpet hides those Claret (Blood) stains real good... ----- Its the musical pocket watch tribute to Sergio Leone! Nice touch. ----- better wipe off the shoes, boys. ----- Well, ya gotta admit, he does love his son. ----- And, finaly (Yea)....remember the ending to the first "Ocean's eleven?" Its a bit like that. Flangepart says : Check it out! way too much F-bomb for my tastes, but, concitering the venue....good cast, and an older Sting as J.D. works too. If like me, you enjoy brit dielect and accents, this is a good flick. But, check out the dvd's Cockney dictionary first. All in all, it keeps you from guessing the final outcome right up to the end, and realy, how many movies do that these days? Wish i had a Bren to go with my Lee-Enfield rifle...dang! Back to you, Andrew!

Yeah, I love LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS.  Of course, I had to see it twice before I figured out what the hell was going on.  In fact, one of the characters in the movie actually states "What the hell is going on?"

If you like LOCK, STOCK, then you should definitely check out SNATCH.  It's by the same director, and it is more or less the same movie.  I don't think SNATCH was quite as good as LOCK, but it's only because every time the movie starts picking up momentum, it stops.  For a long "I'm a tough guy" speech.

But both soundtracks are excellent.

So is Lock Stock not so well known in the U.S? Its the bollocks, but I havent got a scooby what it would be like watching it without understanding it. Poor septics. :)

PS. Theres also a mini-series spin-off of it. I think they made about six hour-long episodes. Was fairly good too.

LOCK has a sizable cult following in the US. It didn't get a very wide release in US theaters, but it get a lot of buzz, and was more popular on home video. This is where most people here (including me) saw it for the first time.

SNATCH did get a wide release in theaters (it actually played in my local theater, we rarely get anything that isn't opening on at least 1500 screens nationwide), but it made less than $10 million in it's opening weekend. Again, it got more attention on home video here, even more than LOCK, which I like better.

It's amazing to me how many people will tell me about watching SNATCH and liking it, and be completely surprised when I tell them to see LOCK. (And does that last sentence just sound dirty?) They usually have never heard of it.

LOCK played the indie circuit.  I don't know if it ever played in a lot of US cities.

I liked SNATCH better, maybe because I saw it before I saw LOCK.  Like you said, they're very similar, and I think the first one you see you will probably think of as the best.  But I would say SNATCH is better because the performances and characters are stronger...I loved Brick Top.

But...I don't think I need to see any more movies by the same director, since he seems to make the same movie over and over.  Unless I hear his future efforts are different, I'll probably skip them.
