Did they *have* to put that spider segment in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"?

I won't sleep for weeks.
Kneel before Dr. Hell, the ruler of this world!

ahahahaha
yes, they HAD to put the spiders in....
it's in the book!

if you haven't read the books... it's a good time...
the spider squence is WAY creepier in the book (i thought)
more detail and more suspense
oh yeah... and i have an overactive imagination..... i guess that helps to scare the crap out of myself

Me, I'm somewhat arachnophobic, yet I had no problem sitting through EIGHT-LEGGED FREAKS. When they did that bit during HARRY POTTER, I just couldn't look directly at the screen. That was like my worst nightmare brought to life. It once again bring me back to my biggest gripe about ELF. If they had done that movie as a serious horror film, it probably would have been a classic. Hell, this was a kid's movie and it creeped the s**t out of me!

Squishy

It's funny--the critics who don't like "Potter" say that the spider scene could've been easily removed to trim the film's huge running time, yet it seems to be incredibly effective, judging from these reactions. (I haven't seen either movie or read the books. Will watch the movies someday.)

I will never touch that franchise because of the annoying hype. I thought this topic was supposed to be about the bad-movie hits SPIDERS I & II.

Looking forward to seeing those when I have some spare time. After reading the review at Jabootu, I'm especially interested in seeing Richard Moll as a serious villain.

On the original topic, I enjoyed the new Harry Potter movie, although it lacked the magic of the first. It just seemed to be another helping of what we liked last time. The giant spiders were my favourite part, by the way. Best giant spiders I've seen in a movie, and presented very effectively.
