The Burgomaster

Does anyone remember this movie? I saw it on TV back in the 1970s. All I remember is that Robert Mitchum stars as a priest (or a guy impersonating a priest) and he carries a machine gun around. I think it takes place in Mexico. I have read a few reviews of it over the years (none of them had many good things to say about it). I wouldn't mind seeing it again after all these years.

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Does he also fly an airplane during the Mexican revolution? If so then I have seen it many times.

In The Wrath of God, Mitchum plays the priest/mercenary  during the Mexican Revolution who likes to blow hell out of everything with a tommygun, Mitchum could play a good "weird priest"

Villa Rides is the movie in which Mitchum plays a mercenary during the Mexican Revolution, who flies a plane for Panch Villa , played by Yul Brynner

Bandido! starred Mitchum as just an ordinary old mercenary during the Mexican revolution, who neither flies a plane nor is a priest, still, this one is the best of the three.

And finally The Wonderful Country starred Mitchum as an assasin for a Mexican general, although I don't remember if it took place during the revolution, still, like most Robert Mitchum films, it kicked ass. So, I guess the moral is...Mitchum liked Mexico, or at least tequila.

I remember when this was a regular weekend staple of TNT programming. By conventional film viewing standards it's not great, but it made me wish I was old enough to have seen it at a drive-in (my way of saying that a flick is a cut above the standard of bad movie enjoyment). But I always remember enjoying it, and think it would make a great addition to this site. Mitchum, Victor Buono, and crew made a fun (and funny) violent adventure genre film well worth another look. Wish I had a copy of it.

Ah, Robert Mitchum, the movies just ain't the same without ya.....

I just finished reading the Robert Mitchum biography "Baby, I don't Care". And it mentions behind the scenes info about the making of most of his films. Also, it's full of hysterical anecdotes and one-liners. I've never read a biography that made me laugh out loud, but this one had some chuckles in it. If you're a Mitchum fan, "I highly suggest you check the book out.
