I've seen "Ring" and "Ring 2", and have taped both on video, thanks to Film Four.  Atmospheric, creepy in parts and an interesting premise, but -  not that frightening.  In fact, the bit where Sadako crawls out of the television set seemed rather silly to me.  On the other hand, the changing video playback in "Ring 2" did make my skin crawl ...

Horses for courses, I guess.  I've not seen the American replay.
