This has been savaged (ironicly) in some quarters.  it's known mainly for a distinct cinemtographic  device it uses:  virtually the whole movie uses some variation of a split screen.  I didn't mind at all, but a more casual filmgoer would i'm sure be very annoyed because it never stops.  Imagine if every episode of 24 was like the montage they do at the end of all the people in the various circumstances.

the movie has another serious issue:  The guy who plays the father  is not right for the part and the lines are either not delievered or not written  well.   It derails the movie.  I also found the sort of "country folk"  american gothic family to be contrived and cliched.

But the thing does have a charm to it.  The make up is work is excellent and if you enjoy gore and murders and that sort of thing there are some particularly brutal and claustrophic sort of scenes of that nature.  the music is truly great.  avant garde guitar scrapings with the occasional metal riff.   as pee wee herman said in one of the cheech and chong movies  "new new NEW WAVE!"
