Deep Discount DVD has a bunch of $5.99 DVDs listed in their "upcoming releases" section. Does anyone know anything about them? (distribution company? widescreen? picture & sound quality?)

Some of the titles are:

* Sound of Horror
* War of the Monsters
* The Day the Sky Exploded
* The Girl in Lover's Lane
* The Witch's Curse
* Vampire's Night Orgy

I feel an itch to go spend a lot of money . . .

Vampire's Night Orgy?  What the hell is that about?

I don't know, but there are 4 reasons why I might buy it:

1. DVD
2. $5.99
3. Vampire
4. Orgy

I figure with a title like that, it would have to star Misty Mundae (www.mistymundae.com) or Debbie Rochon (www.debbierochon.com) or somebody very much like them.  I only hope they are lesbian vampires having the orgy.  A lesbian vampire orgy, now there is something that perks my interest right up!

I actually endured about 15 minutes of PLAYMATE OF THE APES a few nights ago. So do they film the simulated lesbian sex scenes in slow motion to help pad the movie even more? God, that one sex scene I sat through went on forever. If you're watching an "erotic" movie and all you can think during the sex scenes is "Enough already! Get on with the damn movie!" then you know something has gone horribly wrong. Then again, if you're watching the claw hammer to the cranium that is PLAYMATE OF THE APES then something has already gone horribly wrong.

By the way, WAR OF THE MONSTERS is Alpha Videos release of GAMERA VS BARUGON.

SOUND OF HORROR is about an invisible dinosaur. Andrew reviewed it.

GIRL IN LOVER'S LANE is one of those juvenile delinquency movies from the 50s. I believe MST3K did that one but I don't recall off the top of my head.

THE WITCH'S CURSE is if I'm not mistaken a Mexican horror movie that K. Gordon Murray released in the US back in the 60s.

Not to sure about the other two other than their titles sound familiar.

I found my answer. These are all upcoming DVD releases from Alpha Video. (There are tons and tons of them for sale at "oldies.com" for $5.95 each - or 5 for $25).

Does anyone know anything about the quality of the DVDs put out by Alpha Video? Am I wasting my money?

They do seem rather bargain basement priced.  I would want to watch something from them before shelling out cash.  Blue Underground has spoiled me rotten as far as discs go.

no doubt, blue underground is awesome.  it's like designer drugs though - quality stuff and very expensive.  i need to land that world emperor job to afford their dvd's.

I have Bela Lugosi's "Ape Man" and the film "Dick Tracy's Dilemma" from Alpha. They're both full frame (as are most of Alpha's output) and the picture quality is generally okay (scratchy, but fairly sharp). There are no extras.
