Well, I seen this one for Memorial Day. Its a funny film starring Jim Carey. Not great, but nice to find a funny film once in a while. The story is kinda scrambled to me, but I enjoyed it.

Mr_Vindictive

Saw it over the weekend as well.  Wasn't all that great of a flick, really let me down.  And Steve Carrell had too small of a role.  Give this man a lead role!

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

Chadzilla

I skipped this.  The local critic said that Jim Carrey was far too unlikable to make the Capra like story float, and since his overrated Liar, Liar only made me crack a smile now and then, this was easy to skip.  I'll see it eventually, just to watch Morgan Freeman as God.

With all the pain and suffering in the world, God decides to pay a personal visit to a spoiled and whiny mouthed news broadcaster?  Sorry, but the concept does not sell the movie to me.

after seeing Jim Carrey do press for this movie then finally seeing it i relize he really is an ego maniac i wouldnt be surprised if he wrote the movie under a pen name. the movie was dissapointing at best steve carrel is genius on the daily show and was the movies only saving grace... and i have lost all my respect for Mr Carrey.

Chadzilla

Is a stone cold arrogant jerk...I'll never forget his comment on why he left his first wife..."I'm getting paid 7 million to do a movie, so don't you dare ask me to take out the trash!"

When asked what he would do if granted God like powers, what did Carrey respond?  Peace?  An end to poverty?  More good will?  Nah, he said he would send all who disliked his movie The Majestic to hell and silence all critics saying bad things about his movies.

Well we all know it's about you now Jim, all about you...send this guy down a notch America, make Bruce Almighty do poorly.

Someday I hope he is forced to make a movie with either Jean Claude Van Damme or Steven Seagal, or both!

Wow.  I really think I'm the only person in the world who still thinks Jim Carrey is funny.  After Chadzilla's comments I can't say I respect him as much, but I still think he's a funny guy, and I dug the movie.

lighten up, he is funny... and when jim carrey is doing interviews he is as goofy as he is in his movies and has a real dark sense of humor. so dont take those quotes as serious and they are pretty funny, he plays with having a big ego

Well, I just saw the film. I think all of the funny stuff was in the trailers, and I HATED Bruce. Look, all of his problems are caused by him.
-He wrecks his car (what was it, a Porchse?) and blams God. He wrecked it because he wasn't looking at the damn road! That's why he crashed, and seeing how the car looked, shouldn't he be dead?
-He doesn't get the main achor spot, so what does he do? he freaks out on a live broadcast, insults a old woman who never did anything to him, and uses the F word. He also whines about how nobody takes him seriously because he's stuck doing slice of life stories(and he never thinks it might be because he is ALWAYS telling dumb jokes or acting like he's having a grand mall seizure)
-He has sex with Jennifer freaking Aniston (SP?) so as far as I am concerned, he can't whine about anything.
-Even when he's with Jennifer, all he does is whine about HIS problems, not once does he ever discuss anything about her. And yet she still has sex with him.
And when he gets his powers, what does he do? Ruins a few people's lives, causes massive amounts of destruction for his own personal benifent (such as Japan, didn;t this fool listen to his grade school teachers? The moon controls the tides!) and he doesn't even try to fix anything! To bring this rant to a close, Jim Carrey isn't fit to lick Bruce Campbell's shoes and the writers of this film should foced to sit between a Celtic and Ranher football game.

Not meaing to defend anything, but if Bruce is such an unsympathetic character and things get worse when he has godlike powers. Wouldn't it seem logical that the movie is a thought exercise in why simple selfishness is the true root of evil? Just a thought.

You know, i hadn't thought about it like that. Of course, the film really doesn't bring it up much, and aside from the stuff I mentioned, Bruce doesn't really cut lose as much as he could have, and Freeman just kinda stands there. Bruce doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes and the 11th hour change of heart just seems flase to me. I think it could have been better if Bruce had been played straight (he's a normal guy who's been pushed around) and then he goes power hungry. Or not. And with that, I'm finished discussing the film. I still dislike Mr. Carrey (and yes, I think that might have colored my thoughts on my post) but your post Funk E. was interesting and it did make me think.
Thank you, and have a good night/day

Phantom 187

No one can tell me they didn't laugh so hard they popped a gut in the scene where he is making the reporter mess-up on live television. Unless you go in with pre conceived notions about Mr. Carrey and are a stick in the mud critic it will probably make your day a happyer one, it’s the best one he's made in a while. Only the true Jim Carrey fan should go. Those who love "liar liar" and the classic "dumb and dumber" would love to see a movie of the caliber trust me you'll be busting with laughter :).

Scott

I use to like it when Chevy Chase would do that on SNL.

Carrey, who has in my opinion embarassed himself enough with ACE VENTURA 2: WHEN NATURE CALLS and THE GRINCH. Yet Carrye has redeemed himself with the superior THE TRUMAN SHOW and, with some acceptions, THE MAJESTIC. And with his past work, he was good in DUMB AND DUMBER and LIAR,LIAR. THE MASK is another in-between film: not bad, but not good either.

I however am stuck in the middle. He's a mixed bag of results. In his pitiful comedies (the ones I mentioned above) are typical of him: he wails, he whines, he yells. And he does this when it's quite unnessisary with the character he plays, while mugging the camera too much. He's like Adam Sandler when it comes to comedy: Sandler thinks that his childish antics can always save his films, when in reality it doesn't. Same goes to Carrey. Yet in his better work (again, the ones I mentioned above), he proves to be quite good because his childish antics FIT the characters that he plays in his better films. But like I said, Jim Carrey to me is a mixed bag full of ups and downs.

BRUCE ALMIGHTY could be a better Carrey vehicle, so I just might bet on it. However, if I still have my doubts I can always wait until it heads out on video.

And I am probably the only one here who feels that THE TRUMAN SHOW is, and forever will be, Carrey's most acomplished film. Oh well.

Scott

I liked the whole concept of the TRUMAN SHOW.

Dolph Lundgren

I was literally dragged to see this one and didn't like it too much at all.  There was the occasional funny moment (when Carrey made Evan, the other anchor, start saying all sorts of crazy stuff on the air) but the rest of it was pretty weak.  Especially the "cute" little catchphrases Carrey uses in the movie ("B-E-A-utiful, ugh) just got annoying after the third or fourth time.  The best parts of the movie were Aniston, Catherine Bell, and the Saleen.  That's about it.  Otherwise, typical fare.

Oh, and The Truman Show was very good, IMO.
