Cowboys on Camels

Just saw Hidalgo with my wife. We both enjoyed it a lot.

Anyway, our conversation came around to a movie I saw on TV years ago - probably early 80s -  in which a bunch of cowboys, or possibly cavalrymen, ride camels. As I recall, they were expecting a shipment of Arabians, but instead of horses, they get camels. Wackiness ensues.

Anybody remember the title?

That sounds like "Hawmps!"

Here's the IMDB listing for it:

I'm pretty sure that's the one you're talking about.

Hawmps!   1976   features  Denver Pyle , Jack Elam, and Slim Pickens.   This is kinda based on a project that the army actually tried in the 1800's.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Talk about simultaneous posting!

That's the one. Funny that a title like that didn't stick in my memory.

I noticed there's a copy available on eBay that includes Benji's Life Story as a bonus. Unbelieveable.

Not so unbelievable, when you consider that the man, Joe Camp, who brought you this one, also brought us the Benji series. Not a herd of camels,  but James Garner rides a camel in the western "One Little Indian." Brought to the deserts of the West as transportation, then released at the start of the Civil War, they could still be seen up to the 1930's. At least, my mother swears she saw one when she was in Arizona in the 1930's.

Glad I read this posting, thought it was about some new perverted website. LOL

If it's on Cinemax past midnight, it has to be bad.

There were actually tales of them terrorizing cowboys .  Probably would scare the hell out of you if you had never seen one and had no idea what the hell it was.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.
