Holy s**t!

Where the hell have I been for the last 21 years since Scarface was released in 1983?!
I turn 30 years old on April 19th of this year and I had never seen this until just the other night.

Scarface was one of those films that I had heard of over the years but had never seen.
It was one of the big ones that somehow managed to slip through the cracks for me.

I remember back in the early '90's listening to rap music from the Ghetto Boys and hearing the phrase, "SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!!!!" in the lyrics but not knowing where that came from.

Now I know!

What a fantastic movie this was for me to watch!
I was totally riveted!
You couldn't pry me away from it!

My parents had bought the Special Edition DVD and when I asked to borrow it the other night they were reluctant.
With my stepdad sitting at the table nearby looking at me, my mother said, "We haven't seen it yet and we want it back as soon as you're done watching it....you'd better not keep it for a long time like you do with all the other DVD's you borrow from us."
My parents haven't seen it either and they're in their 50's!
What a shock they're in for!

Well....I took it back to them and gave them my thanks for allowing me to view this magnificent film and told them that they have to watch it because it is so f**king badass!

I will say that the only drawback was that I couldn't understand some of what was being said in the Hispanic accents and had to frequently turn on the subtitles.

Other than that...
You're f**king-A right...this was a kickass film!

It's a strange but glorious thing to view a film like this for the first time in your life when so many others before you HAVE seen it zillions of times and know it well...
But I hadn't.
It was a NEW movie to me....and I loved it!

Any thoughts?

Glad to hear you finally saw Scarface, Ash.   I too hadn't seen it until about three years ago, and I've probably watched it about twenty times since.

Fantastic film and one of the most infulential of our generation.

funny little tidbit - if you play Grand Theft Auto Vice City, you can see a bathroom in one of the apartment complexes exactly like the one where the guy got the working end of the chainsaw.

Great flick - rush rush to the yeyo!

Blankman,

Don't forget that Vercetti's mansion by the end of the game also has the same wallpaper (red sunset, palm trees) in the small room to the right of the lobby.

Scarface= awesome film.

I had a similar experience actually, i had never seen Apocalypse Now until recently and also love that film.  It's funny how you go through life thinking a film isn't going to really matter to you until you see it and wham, you're changed forever.

Mr_Vindictive

Dean, same here.

Another film that I've had a similar experience with was Fight Club.  Saw the trailers when it was first released and it looked mediocre at best.  Bought it on DVD about two years later was blown away.  One of the smartest most entertaining films I've ever seen in my life.

Definently on my top 5 list.

I saw it last year for the first time and really hated it.  Aside from the fact that it's become such a ludicrously overblown hip hop cliche, I just honestly think it isn't that good of a movie.  Didn't hold my interest, didn't give me any characters worth caring about, went on for way too long.

Did you know a video game is coming out for this, Skaboi?
p.s. this is Neon Noodle, I can't remember my password at work...

Rule 3 - someone yells stop, goes limp, taps out.....the fight is over!

I'm with you Brock.  I had no sympathy for any of the characters.  At least in the Godfather movies the characters had a (warped) sense of honor, here it was just a bunch of sick mofo's selling blow and killing each other.  Nice amount of gore, but for me that's about it.

This movie is my husband Ricks favorite movie. He has watched it many times.

I've never watched Scarface and really don't plan to. I've also never watched any of the Godfather movies. Not really into gangster movies.

I did watch Apocalypse Now when it was on pay cable for the first time. The previews made it look great, but I found the movie itself boring.

Great movie, Al Pacino's best movie definitely.  Tony Montana is funny as hell (I like that part where he yells at the tv with the flamingo and the constant coke snorting)  Made me want to be an evil drug lord after I saw it indeed.  Overall it's brillant- Grand Theft Auto vice city is a total clone in many ways- same music and a lot of the same places.  I'll watch this one with the warriors and I'm set for hours full of hilarity and violence.

Ash you are not alone in not having yet seen Scarface until recently. I have never seen more than the last half hour of this movie and have always wanted to see the rest but never have goten around to renting it.

Smells like popcorn and shame

I remember seeing SCARFACE when it came out on Video. This is a brutal violent film and very well done. I don't usually like films with mafia types nor do I like movies that focus on drugs, but Al Pacino and the overall action overide any thoughts of this and almost make it a side issue. It's almost like an American success story kinda like THE GODFATHER. The chainsaw and execution at the motel was most impressive and the meeting with the drug lord and the corrupt cop as Pacino simply kills him. Brutal film that will be around and remembered for a long time.

that's cool you finally caught it. when i 1st saw Scarface i was still in high school and i was very shocked by it. it was the 1st film i saw that aside from our typical 'tv-miami-vice' bulls**t world of crime, actually showed how ugly the world of drug trafficking can get. and it was like a punch to the stomach. it took me a 2nd viewing in fact to really absorb the film and respect it more. to this day i still like it for it's realism and honesty.
