Brother Ragnarok

Since I'm about the only one on this board who seems to like this movie, I don't know how many of you went out to buy it on release day, but mine was kinda special.  I spent most of my afternoon hanging out at the Best Buy in Minneapolis and had my copy signed by Sheri Moon and the man himself, Rob Zombie.  Five hours of waiting for ten seconds with one of the coolest people on the planet, and it was well worth it.

Wow! I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'd happily wait 5 hours to spend 10 seconds with Sheri Moon too! ;)

Gecko brothers

I'm thinking on renting it with Aliens on DVD

As I said elsewhere, it's worth a rental if just for the DVD menus, which are hilarious.

But don't go to Scene Selections unless you've already seen the movie because Otis gives some plot stuff away.

Maybe it's just my age but I really have a hard time taking him seriously.

Have a hard time taking me seriously?  ;)
I figure you mean Zombie.  Okay, so he's not a lawyer or a banker or some boring thing that is the marking of a well-groomed and classy person, but the man basically lives in Halloweentown from Nightmare Before Christmas.  And he lives there with Sheri Moon.  I'm jealous.

That's not what I mean by 'taking seriously'

What I mean is the whole name and look thing.  I mean, Alice Cooper went for the whole shock thing decades ago, and maybe there were some before him, I don't know , but it sorta loses it's impact when you grow up and realizze "hey, it's just an act, it's the guys schtick, he's an entertainer and that's how he entertains"  That really doesn't take away from the entertainment, but you stop taking the persona seriously within itself.

So whan I go to www.robzombie.com and see him glowering out from the web page with menace and malice, and then I think of how many people had to work together to get that image together; web designers and photographers and publicists and who knows what else, it's hard not to chuckle at the image.  It takes so much effort to get the image out that anybody who actually had a personaility and lifestyle like that to start with would never really get the chance to show that image to a wide audience.  You can pretend to be creepy and get known for being creepy but it's just pretend and hopefully you or nobody else takes it as more then, maybe  silly, entertainment.  If you are really creepy than nobody will every really know except maybe some close relatives, friends, or the local police.

Jeffery Dahmer is genuinely creepy, Marilyn Manson's just a derivative goofball.  Who's career is based on trying to get attention and who was trying to remain unnoticed.  Which would you prefer not to be alone with?

So when I hear a name like "Rod Zombie" and go check out his website, I just sorta laugh and say "nice schtick, dude"  He's got his act, keeps people entertained, great for him.  But I don't take the persona seriously in it's own right

Well, I don't think you're supposed to think "wow, I'll bet he always has those white contact lenses and scary X-on-the-forehead makeup on".  That's just it, it's schtick.  It's fun and it's entertaining, but there is a person underneath it.  At the signing, he just had a black t-shirt and a baseball cap on; no monster stuff whatsoever.  His dreadlocks are all cut off now, too.  The point is to make everyone go, "he can entertain us really well and he's a brilliant showman", which he is.
As a person, he's a really down-to-earth low-profile kinda guy.  Funny, sarcastic, and usually really soft spoken.
