Cheaper DVD prices on the horizon

I've been noticing a trend of a lot of good (well, maybe not GOOD, but at least "movies I'm willing to buy") DVDs being released at low prices (under $10). I recently bought Polanski's THE TENANT, plus we have stuff like RAW MEAT, SQUIRM, and THE BROOD all coming out for under $10. I also noticed that LIPSTICK and BLACK SUNDAY (the Bruce Dern / Robert Shaw movie) are being released for under $6 . . . in WIDESCREEN.

Let's hope that this trend continues . . .

I love cheap films! Thank all the Gods there are for Wal-Mart's bargain bin!

I can't say I ever find anything in wal-marts $5 bin but I glanced and the one near me has a $14 bin. Now ordinarily I wouldn't find that too amazing but I noted some of the movies in there and later looked on amazon to find them being priced over $20. They also had some at $8-9 which are usually priced higher. I always shop around to see where the real bargain lies so that was pretty impressive, and some very new titles and hot films at that. (which made me realize that cheap films didn't have to be "cheap movies")

Even with sales tax it would beat out buying online. of course you could find previously viewed but I'm very wary of those and sometimes their prices aren't really that deep discount. I just think currently with the dvd trend they are way overpriced - I never thought I would fork out $20-$50 for a movie. And generally, I don't.

I agree. I still can't figure out everyone's love affair with Amazon . . . that website is generally not a bargain. I buy about 80 - 90% of my dvds online from Deep Discount DVD. They are cheaper than Amazon, Circuit City and Best Buy on almost every title, and shipping is free. The only movies you have to be careful of are recent theatrical releases, which are sometimes a bit more expensive. Overall, I save anywhere from $1 to $5 on every title, and they deliver them to my mailbox free.

I have also done well on Ebay a couple of times. I have picked up some factory sealed movies for good prices.

Also . . . I have found that Wal-Mart is EXCELLENT for Disney films, I bought POLYANNA, OLD YELLER, and THE PARENT TRAP each for about $8.00 cheaper than Circuit City and Best Buy. That's a $24 savings on 3 dvds . . . not bad!

It's related to EBay but Half.com is also very good.    Myself, I don't mind previously viewed so I often can get an even better deal....I think some of it is that the movies I get are so bad that they've only been watched once.

It's also a great way to pick up hard-to-find VHS titles.
