I remember a cartoon with 3 main characters and it was set in space.

All 3 zoomed around in space on rocket sleds.

The first was a white guy who was the leader.
He had the power to transform both himself and the rocket sled into a big powerful fireball.

The 2nd character was a black guy who wore green and had the power to change himself & his rocket sled into atomic particles.  (he had the atomic symbol on his chest)

The third character was a female if I'm not mistaken and I can't remember what her power was.

If I remember correctly I think they were part of the Space Ghost family of characters.
I recall an episode with them & Space Ghost together fighting an enemy.

The name is right on the tip of my tongue but I can't remember it.

Anyone?

The show was Teen Force, part of the 1981 series "Space Stars" with Space Ghosts, the Herculoids, and Astro and the Space Mutts. The characters names were Kid Comet, MoleculeLad, and Elektra.

I remembered the show but had to root around a bit on IMDB to find the names.

Cullen

I think yaddo42's right.  I dimly remember seeing them briefly as a kid, then again on the Cartoon Network

Cullen - Super Genius, Novelist, and all in all Great Guy.

That's it!

I remember now.

When you first said "MoleculeLad" I thought you were wrong.

I was pronouncing his name incorrectly in my head.

I was pronouncing it Molecule-Lad.

It is properly pronounced Mo-LEC-u-lad.

What was Elektra's power by the way?

Some kind of vague force beam/telekenesis ray that originated from the center of the star on her helmet, IIRC. She usually put her hands to her temples in the classic "I'm concentrating" stance when using her powers. She also tended to faint or collapse from overuse or exhaustion when the plot needed it.
