I recently purchased the DVD boxed set of the 4 Omen movies (3 real Omen movies, and one fake sequel).

The sound and picture quality are very good, but the only good movie in the bunch is the original. The sequels are all weak, which I knew before I bought this, but what the hell.

Opinions, anyone????

I remember 4 official films on the series, but number IV I think it was made for TV and was even worse than the other sequels. Is it the one you mention as unnofficial? About my opinion, the first one is the only worth getting, it has several chilling scenes and probably is the best film Richard Donner has ever made. The second is quite useless, but it has a couple of surprisingly gory deaths. The only good thing about #3 is Sam Neill, but it is dull and uninspired. Haven't seen the above-mentioned #4, but my sis did and is still laughing.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

Ah The  Om en I believe is my FAVORITE horror movie of all time. Too bad I still have yet to find it without its crap sequals anywhere.

Yes. I consider number IV to be an unofficial sequel because it really doesn't tie in with the other Omen movies. The first 3 had some continuity and formed a trilogy. Part IV was made several years later and really has nothing to do with the Damien trilogy. It's sort of like the Amityville movies. They really don't have a whole lot in common with one another, they just keep using the name in the title.

It's amazing to me that Richard Donner can kick such ass with stuff like The Omen, the Goonies, and the first Superman, and then go on to suck in every single other movie he's made, like the horrid lethal weapon series.

Am i the only one who liked the second omen? While the original stands as a classic, I stopped after the 2nd (cannot bear the others) - but love the music and scenes with the teenage Damian. Just as effective, couldn't have been pulled off today.

An interesting read:

I had 2 major problems with Part II:

1. The actor who plays Damien is irritating and doesn't have much talent.
2. The movie doesn't have any moody creepiness about it . . . it seems to be too brightly lit and "slick" looking . . . this takes away from the sense of impending doom. There isn't a single frightening moment in the entire movie.

However, it is slightly better than the average movie sequel.

The first one was darker, more atmospheric- I enjoyed it more.  The seocnd one seemed more focused on shock value - gore I geuss. I would have hated to see the type of actor they would cast in that role today, probably some handsome  kid who equally couldn't act. (the first movie had that kid looking like the devil with his eyes, then again most 4 year olds can do that easily)

In most cases with sequels you are talking about a different director, often the actors too- so the movie is a whole different animal. But I still liked it. Couldn't stand the Final Conflict.  "exorcist III" has the same feeling for me, it's a movie that has to stand on it's own seperate from the original in order to enjoy it. (while that sequel was a bit of cheese, the direction and camera style were very good)

I dunno, I never enjoyed elevator rides after that.
in fact a recent story here in the news reminded me of how much I hate them - a doctor got his shoulder stuck in an elevator door and it began moving. It decapitated him. :-o
