I noticed that the DVD advert above the bulletin board happened to be showing "Them!", neat coincidence since I bought and saw it again last week.  It's a long time since I last saw it, but those ant stridulations in the New Mexico desert remain prrrretty creepy.

Another thought came to me while watching it - there's a lot of work in it with manpack flamethrowers, dangerous things at the best of times.  Not the sort of thing you can afford to miss your cue with!

"Oops!  Sorry, Jim, got the wobbles there with the flamethrower; don't worry, Mister Douglas, that's why we have rehearsals. Er, Jim? Jim?"

Love that flick!
Right up there with Godzilla, The Thing (From another world), and The day the Earth stood still for classic B&W goodness.

"Aggressivlly eccentric, and proud of it!"

I have always enjoyed the old, good creature flicks like "Them!" and "The Thing from Another World."

Talking about dangerous, I believe that it is in "Seven Samurai" when you see an actor get bumped hard by a horse.  One of the scenes with the bandits attacking the village and an unmounted villager takes all the inertia.  It did not look intentional.

And, to boot, I hope to proofread and post "The Shape of Things to Come" tonight.  In that you see Jack Palance hit over the head with a big foam beam.  He did not seem to be expecting the thing to fall on him.
