I have "The stand" on dvd and was flipping between the movie and commentary (because i couldn't decide which i wanted to view first). I had forgotten that Joe Bob Briggs was in the movie, just a bit role, but it wasn't that long ago he had his own show. For me it was sort of the last of the late nite bad movie show. Then they glammed up the weekend movie shows with "Dinner and a movie" with more popular flicks.  I know he's a local boy (here from texas) but I have no idea whatever happened to him.

Something else I was thinking about was growing up overseas we had a station we picked up from japan I think where they had special radio shows. Mystery theater stuff, I never heard anything like it in the states but it's too bad concepts like that can't be revived mainstream. I don't listen to the radio at all ..mostly because of the amount of commercials aired is ridiculous (thank you clearchannel). When Mars was close to earth and visible I told a friend I thought it would be neat to play that war of the worlds bit on the radio, just for fun.

Mofo Rising

He still reviews b-movies.  He's got a website I don't know the URL to.

Joe Bob also just wrote a book called PROFOUNDLY DISTURBING, about disturbing movies that revolutionized film.  Such as SHAFT, THE WILD BUNCH, THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, RESERVOIR DOGS, CRASH. . .  It's really good.  Briggs actually knows quite a bit about movies.
Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

joes site is at www.joebobbriggs.com

in addition to his new book, he is also doing commentary on B-movie releases on dvd. a search at amazon or checking out his site might turn them up.

he also writes for the AP about numerous topics and travels the world reviewing gambling casinos (which he also writes about for the AP)

his site is cool, there's a weekly "find that flick" contest. and sometimes contests. one week i won a alternatvie country cd by answering joe bob related questions. not bad for a freebee.

Gambling casinos? ;-)

Didn't that late show trailer park show he had on have a website?I keep thinking it did because I used to visit it (or some such site) and they had a caption contest where they would have a screenshot of some b-movie and you could submit a caption. I never won but it was hysterical to read the entries. He's just been out of the limelight for so long, where I haven't seen him anyways, that I miss his insight and observations. He's a likable guy. I'm going to check out his website now...

Brother Ragnarok

He's hosting a horror flick fest Halloween night in Minneapolis (hell yeah I'll be there, dressed in a lab coat stained with real blood and carrying a syringe full of luminol no less).  The DVD's he does commentary for are so far only Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter and I Spit On Your Grave, but he's signed on with Elite to do a whole slew of 'em.
His website is updated a few times a week usually, with new articles from various places, as well as a week-in-review news column.
