oooh! The darkest corner of Video Oasis here in Boston is reserved for stuff like this.  I really don't know much about gore.  I know alot of people know alot about it.  Is any of it real.  I've seen faces of death and stuff, but I don't think I want to watch a person being dimembered that much nowadays.

Cannibal Holocaust, Make Them Die Slowly, and Man from Deep River all featured actual footage of animals being slaughtered, done exclusive for the film.  Pretty nasty (and to me offensive, sick, and cruel - excuse me as my heart bleeds on my shoes but I cannot keep silent about how truly inhumane that s**t is).  I watched Cannibal Holocaust once and found it powerful, but have never been able to sit through it twice without getting so sick to my stomach that I have to turn it off or vomit.  As far as humans go - no actual snuff movies have ever been found (urban legends and lurid thrillers from Hardcore to 8mm are filled with them though), and whether or not the footage is actual or re-enactments is cause for debate.  Personally I have not seen them and have no real desire to (I like my fantasy dark, but its FANTASY).  Others may offer different opinions.

Steve.

You're correct, Chad - not a single "Snuff" movie has ever been verified, it's another case of an Urban Legend. Faces Of Death does contain filmed executions, but even some of the footage in that "documentary" was faked. The original movie "Snuff" (made in Argentina) was simply a terrible horror flick with a supposedly real murder tacked onto the end. It was quickly exposed as a ludicrous hype tactic.

There was a spanish horror movie recently about snuff films that was really good.  I can't remember what it was called.  It takes place at a film school.  Baah....anyway, they have another one there called "violent s**t" that looks cool.

Raffles: it's called "Thesis", and man is it
good.  I was once taken to task on this very
board for ranting about how good it was...
anyway, I'll spare others the evangelism
for right now, but that flick's gotta be
my favorite foreign horror film.
