Comfort Horror Movies

I know how silly this topic sounds, but there are definite movies I go back to to get my b-movie fix.

My comfort horror movie?  RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD.  There's never really a bad time for me to catch this film.  It just works on so many levels.  Sure there's no football in the groin, but my every antisocial bone in my body is struck by this movie.  It reminds me of hitting your funny bone.  It's not funny, and it actually kind of hurts.  If only every movie could do this for me.

One of my favorite movies ever.  If I could meet one celebrity, it would be James Karen.

MST is always a good fallback contingency.  For my fallbacks (aside from MST), I usually go with Evil Dead 2, a Godzilla flick, or Creature From The Black Lagoon.  For some reason I just can't get tired of Creature.

I always pull out my VHS version of The OuterLimits episode "The Zanti Misfits" late at night, everybody in bed and I'm feeling nostalgic.  I'm wondering how this would turn out today were it remade . . . .hmmmm, flying Zantis, with stingers, maybe?

Army of Darkness, Plan 9, The Tingler, and A Bucket of Blood. Don't know why, but I always come back to those ones.

The original Nightmare on Elm St. and part 3 Dream Warriors would be two of my favorite comfort horror films

rosemary's baby---cuz it always manages to creep me out...like when that guy runs by the door when their in the apartment or the "This isn't a dream! this is really happening!"

My comfort horror flick has to be Last House on the Left. Not a technically polished film in anyway, but I love it so much. When I meet a woman who can appreciate it's artistic quality I'll marry her.

This'll sound weird, but "Creepshow" makes me think of Christmas.  This goes back to 1982-83 or so when my family went down to our town's tree-lighting (a big event in my town).  It was after school had let out, so we got to stay up late that night.  My brother and sister and I were watching HBO in the warm glow of the Christmas tree drinking hot chocolate and eating candy canes, and "Creepshow" came on for some reason.  It was the first time I saw it, and I really enjoyed it (today I see it as more funny (intentionally so) than scarey).  It has been a Christmastime tradition for me ever since and I'll watch it at least once every December.  

I guess the weird thing is that it has nothing whatsoever to do with Christmas.  Personally, I think it was the high point of Hal Holbrook's career.

Evil Dead has always been my Comfort Horror Flick.  Can never ever get sick of it, and can certainly watch it anytime!

Chopper2-My wife was made by her mother to watch Last House when she was younger to "teach her not to talk to strangers."  Suprisingly my wife turned out ok, and actually likes the film.  

But to do that to a kid........wrong.

Personally, I can't get enough of "Dagon". It is a movie I knew I would like even before I did actually see it. I am a huge Lovecraft fan, and on "Dagon" I found both a competent Lovecraft adaptation and a horror movie that managed to get on my nerves. I own the DVD and I use to let it to new friends who are into horror as well, with mixed results. I play it now and then to myself, but I always skip the skinning scene. Too much for me. I let the DVD to my sister, and she still looks at me like if I was mad when I tell her how much I like it. I think she is mad at me for making her see the above mentioned scene. Or maybe, as she suggested, it is becoming an obssession of mine.

I have to agree with RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. No matter how many times I see it I never tire of it. It could be playing on TV and I will stop and watch the rest of it. I get a big kick out of that movie.  I like the warehouse manager and the creamatory guy.  Way to funny.

I like the RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD II, but of coarse it's not as good.

Don't mean to be repetitive, but for me its always been Return of the Living Dead. I'm too much of a fan of that movie- I have the soundtrack on vinyl, UK vinyl, CD, and the picture disc with added sounds from the movie for instance. I know every line from that movie almost I'm pretty sure too- I've seen it countless times even the workprint. The 2nd and the 3rd I thought were horrible though.

I'd say other comfort movies would be: Day of the Dead, Zombie, the first Puppet Master, and Tenebre
