You should check out Superfly, which just came out on DVD within the last month or so.  That is one kickass DVD, and one great flick.

Big Skillet from Blacula may be my all time favorite B-movie character.  His interactions with Mamowalde are hysterical.

I heard Superfly died recently.  Apparently he spent his waning years speaking out against the lifestyle he inspired.

Has anyone ever seen a blaxploitation film called "the Brother's Revenge?" I remember seeing a trailer for it on the gorgon distributed faces of death. And according to the Psychotronic video guide the plot is about a bunch of "brothers" who get back to the south from 'Nam and start killing off racists who are messing with their family. Probably one of the not so accesible of this b-genre.

I would like to order a copy of Sweetback Bad Ass Song(movie).

"Sweetback" is a bizarre movie.  My guess is that most people would not watch more than 15 or 20 minutes of it (unless they were huge blaxploitation fans).

It has a very low-budget "underground" look to it . . . very rough camera work and editing.  Plus, it is very dated.

But it is interesting to see how the blaxploitation genre got started.

Aside from Rudy Ray Moore's films(which you really have to be dedicated to sit through) My favorites include Black Samurai(watched it as a child and still haven't quit using the phrase "Mother-humper"). Black Belt Jones(also a Jim Kelly classic!).  Hit!(Billy Dee Williams AND Richard Pryor!!!).

Tick...tick...tick...., I'm not sure that you could call it Blaxsploitaion or Soul-Cinema, but it stars Jim Brown and features Bernie Casey, two giants of the genre. Also, it's a pretty damned good flick. And, it co-stars Andrew's favorite actor...Mr. George Kennedy!!

.  .  .  .  fyi, jic, et al. saw a double feature DVD of old Black cinema at a vid. store, featuring The Blood of Jesus and another flick.  Read about it in a book.  Just in case anyone was wondering about pre-Blaxpliotation cinema, and didn't know about the release.

 I bought Superfly a few days ago too. It's great! I like the Rudy Ray Moore movies, Coffy, Friday Foster, and Blacula. I've always wanted to see Sugar Hill.
