Bah.  I hate people who say stuff like this.  Just get over it.  You're in a horror movie, you damn jackass!  Quit dissing the genre or no one's going to shell out their $7 to watch you be in a movie you don't respect.
Why are us horror fans treated like bastard children who get fed gruel through the crack under the basement door?

What a dick! Seems like Ving has the old hiney hairs wound a bit too tight. I love how he refers to himself as a SERIOUS actor, what he does is make art, not movies! Art....like his Radio Shack commercials....they make me all weepy.

You know an actor is a self-important, hard on when they refer to a movie as " A Piece".....it's a friggin' movie!!! a***ole!!

Everyone has potentially fatal flaws, but yours involve a love of soldiers' wives, an insatiable thirst for whiskey, and the seven weak points in your left ventricle.

.  .  .  .  He may just be defending himself from being typecast (once you're a horror star, you're usually dead to Hollywood [except Weaver, Curtis, etc.]), and tired of all the crazy horror fans out there (in here?) who Trek horror stars to death.  I'm sure that it may be hard to answer 70 questions on how cool it was to see the back of that guys head explode, whether or not he likes the original, or whatever the question may be.  He can't really view "character arc" as important since "He’s in ENVY, a new comedy with Ben Stiller and Jack Black," or because "I tried to view the situation as zombies vs. Ving Rhames."  I'll give him the leeway I didn't grant Thomas Ian Nicholas for his "I didn't know they made eight of these" reference to being in Halloween 8, since that was a "hip," off-the-cuff remark, as opposed to analytical.
.  .  .  .  He did say that he liked the film, but it is correct to be angry at him for dissing the genre.  For some reason, I remember Craven making heinous remarks about the genre.  About how he never really watches the stuff, and found slasher's to be offensive.  He said that he prefered the old Italian stuff (Fellini) to actual horror.
.  .  .  .  Is there really a world beyond the gruel slot?  Gordon, says there isn't.  Oh, to be amidst the urine-soaked (or is it something else?) theatre floor, around crying babie, and to eat a $20.00 steak before going to see the film, and getting a $30.00 box of Goobers for desert (Hokey comedian fodder, but worth a shot).

Don't put us down Ving Rhames you f**k face! Ving Rhames: "The People Under the Stairs wasn't a horror movie". What the hell? If "PUtS" wasn't a horror movie then that means "The Producers" wasn't a comedy but a study of the minds of greedy producers(I don't know what the hell I'm typing because I'm so offened right now) I hope Rhames gets killed in the movie.

Now it's time to sing the nation anthem IN AMERICA!!!

I'ma film student who'se into the horror genre and I can say that without a doubt, he sounds like he had a good time and just wanted to be as proffessional as he could about this.

I honestly dont see the negetivity you guys are seeing and I can understand why he may sound a little disaproving of the horror genre.

Darkness falls
Resident evil
they
13 ghosts
ghost ship
house of the dead
dracula 2000
john Carpenters vampires
ghosts of mars
feardotcom

the genre as a whole hasnt had much going for it over the past few years.  Just my 2 cents I'm still not sure where you guy's are picking up all this hatred for the horror genre from this article. yes I read the whole thing.

save the world, kill a politician or two.

Au contraire, mon ami (hey, I'm not French, I'm sure I spelled all of that wrong).
Cabin Fever
Jeepers Creepers
House of 1000 Corpses (back off, it was cool, and a lot better than the TCM remake)
Ginger Snaps 1 and 2
The Item
Dog Soldiers
Hellboy (oh, like it's NOT going to rule)
Audition
Ringu
Dagon
The Night Flier
Wendigo
And those are just from my personal collection (aside from Hellboy).  Despite the crap that hits the big screens, there will always be more than enough kickass horror movies to show that anyone who wants to sweep this genre under the rug is a Philistine.

Lighten up, guys.  By stating that he never saw the original Dawn of the Dead and doesn't appear to like horror movies (though he didn't explicitly say that, did he?), Rhames isn't "dissing" anything - he's just expressing his own perfectly valid taste in movies.... probably because an interviewer asked questions that led him there.  I'm sure all his babbling about race was also prompted by an interviewer question or questions, but since the writer is just quoting him out of context he sounds preoccupied with it.

The best policy in terms of actors is to disregard every word they say that doesn't make the final cut.

George

He lost me with the Radio Shack commercials

Mr_Vindictive

Brother R, great list there.  Wendigo is fantastic and Hellboy will rock hard.

As for Ving, I too am disappointed.  He never even saw the original Dawn Of The Dead!?  He just read it!?  And it seemed:

"Somewhat political...."

ARGH!

Dude, just because we like these films doesn't mean he has to put us down.  He just did the film for the bank....bastard.  And he keeps acting like he's soooooooo elegant and intelligent.

Come on guy, you took it in the ass from Zed.  Although a great film, it's probably not the highlight of your career and doesn't make you a film god.  You are so frigging mediocore.

Of course, George Romero doesn't consider his DAWN a horror film either.

Evil Matt

So the dude doesn't seemed to jazzed to be in a movie that every die-hard horror fanboy says is going to suck anyway?  What's the gripe, then?

Everything's funnier with monkeys.

I always find it a little disheartening to read something like this, but who cares?  So he won't be going to any Fango cons, big deal.

Ving is still an amazing actor, and believe me, you could NOT ask for a better actor to be the shotgun-toting, zombie-killing badass in this movie (which I've already seen, and is awesome).

Good point.

I'm a musician.  I hate country western music.  If someone pays me to play country western music, then I'll do it.  Doesn't mean I like the music but, I can do it and I'll do the best I can.  If some country western fan is upset  that  I'm playing country western and I don't like it, who cares?  Enjoy the music or don't.  I don't get paid to like it, I get paid to do it well

Hmm. I guesss I was overreacting to what he said. But still I don't like other people looking down on the horror genre.

Of course.  Nobody likes it when people look down on what they like, be it movies or music or books or whatever.,

But then, I wouldn't hang out at a place called "badmovies" if I didn't have a pretty thick skin when it came to other people's opinions of what I like
