ok, i have a whole week off on vacation. My idea of vacation isn't going to jamaica, clearly, but a little r&r that involves a movie theater near me. So far i've seen a few from the library but I didn't really know what to think of some of the films out right now. Summer movies are pretty borderline with me.

The Village appears to be a love/hate movie with viewers. Clearly some of the better films hit theaters in the fall, but what 3 films would you recommend seeing that are currently in theaters? So far i've seen the Bourne Supremacy. I thought about Open Water, not sure if that is out yet. The Manchurian Candidate is being overhyped as a critics favorite and Collateral looks stupid from the trailer but is getting suprisingly good points. And wtf is thunderbirds? So with th idea that some movies are better than they look or how much they grossed.....

Do you have a top thumbs up and thumbs down list?

Go for Spider-man 2! I had a blast at that one! I want to try the "Village" next. I think I'll stay away from "Thunderbirds".

Now it's time to sing the nation anthem IN AMERICA!!!

Oh yeah, I forgot I saw Spider-Man 2 also as a "recent film". That was better than the first and I wouldn't mind seeing it again except i'll probably wait until I own it on dvd.

I might like the Village, only because I like the slow drawn out suspense of a movie. I even liked "Unbreakable", well...except for that fight scene with the lifesize henson puppet attatched to his back. Shyamalan is definately full of himself but his movies have a different style. I guess it's the same with Tarrantino, alot of people began hating his films and yes...he is an arrogant prick. But it's so hard to find directors who really HAVE a fresh style to break away from the hollywood recycling bin.

I just wanted to get out to the theaters, i've been checking out alot of library movies recently. Drugstore Cowboy, Election, Dawn of the Dead, Good Will hunting...my library card is already wearing out. And blockbuster is an evil empire of overcharging candypushers. The dollar theater has some interesting films playing, although I doubt i'd see "kill bill 2". I didn't care for the first, I like violence. I just felt tarrantino was going over the top with this one. HIs films are characteristically dialogue worthy, with Kill bill i wasn't really impressed with any of it.

If you're looking for a hilarious comedy go see "Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle".

It's a great movie!

I really liked Collateral a lot. But I've always liked Michael Mann's films. Collateral does a good job of being a modern noir, and bringing you into the real seedy side of LA that's unspoken of.

Susan,

I'm with Ash.  I saw Harold And Kumar over the weekend and it was a great stoner comedy.  Some of the bits fell flat, but the ones that worked did so perfectly.
