THE OX-BOW INCIDENT (1943) - Great Western. A true classic and you don't have to be a Western fan to get into this film. Henry Fonda, Anthony Quinn, Henry Morgan star in this film about a lynch mob and the lynch mob mentality. The film really gets you upset about the injustice portrayed on the screen. Very affective film. Check out the DVD from Fox as it has a A&E biography on Henry Fonda and film commentary.

This is a good story that sort of makes you sick by the end.  Dana Andrews does a good turn in this picture, too.  I think I mentioned before a couple of my older siblings had to watch this in high school.

You have to ask your self  'How would I deal with this?' , especially if you were Fonda, Morgan, and the rest after the truth is told.  Pretty heady stuff.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Truly a great western.

And one of the reasons it is so great, and why it is better then many of today's films, can be seen in the picture posted with the review.  For once you get past the stars--Henry Fonda and Dana Andrews, you can see character actors like Anthony Quinn, before he became a star; Jane Darwell, in an unusual role for her; Francis Ford, John's elder brother; Rondo "The Creeper" Hatton; and Frank Conroy.

Some of the other character actors in the film include Henry (Harry) Morgan, Harry Davenport, Marc Lawrence, Paul Hurst, Chris-Pin Martin, and Willard Robertson. And appearing uncredited are Stanley Andrews, George Chandler, and Margaret Hamilton.

While in today's films, alot of stars, but not that many character actors.

And if one liked the film, one might try the novel by Walter Van Tilburg Clark, upon which the film is based. While there are slight differences between the book and the film, the film is one of those  rare films that follows the book quite closely.
