While on a journey, Chuang Tzu found an old skull, dry and parched.
With sorrow, he questioned and lamented the end of all things.
When he finished speaking, he dragged the skull over and, using it for a pillow, lay down to sleep.
In the night, the skull came to his dreams and said, 'You are a fool to rejoice in the entanglements of life.'
Chuang Tzu couldn`t believe this and asked, 'If I could return you to your life, you would want that, wouldn`t you?'
Stunned by Chuang Tzu`s foolishness, the skull replied, 'How do you know that it is bad to be dead?'

When originally planned for Special Edition release, Paramount announced that they were planning on releasing the first film in it's original 'X' rated version (which, when released back in 1981, was cut down to an R rating and has been the most common version available on VHS). However, Paramount has not announced that the DVD for the first film will be the R rated version, with the explicit violent sequences presented on another disk taken from a worn workprint format.

Funny, because in Great Britian released FRIDAY THE 13th in it's original 'X' rated version, taken from the original 35mm internegative! Talk about a let-down. Plus, the 'X' version is also availble on DVD in Japan! You would think that Paramount would do the right thing and get the original materials back, considering they own the full rights to the film!

Dunners

X rated version? whats that mean more nudity and gore?

save the world, kill a politician or two.

Brother Ragnarok

Yep, the X means more nudity and gore.  Mostly gore, though.
I'm not buying this box set on the sheer principle of the thing.  A huge grassroots fan movement was put in motion to get a decent treatment of these movies.  Paramount promised something great, and at the last moment renegged on their promise and screwed the fans again.  f**k Paramount in the face.

That's sounds kinda painful.

And GIVE US THE X VERSION YOU ROTTEN BASTARDS!!!

Now it's time to sing the nation anthem IN AMERICA!!!

I don't think I'll be buying this box set anytime soon.  Looks like the vids are bare.  Screw that.

As for the X rating of the original F13, I know of one scene in particular that is cut in America.  This is the scene where Kevin Bacon is laying on the bunk, then has the spear come through his throat.  There is an extended sequence of this, filled with good ole' Savini effects, that is available on DVD in other countries.

All I'm asking of Paramount is that they release F13: Part 7 uncut.  That would be a dream come true.  It's awful just how cut that flick is.  Bastards

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

You might want to read this before you decide.  Sounds like these discs are anything but bare.  Although they are all the original theatrical versions it looks like a lot of the cut material is available on the supplements.

Review.

I'm skipping it but only because I've never been a big fan of this series.

Despite the cut material being on the supplumental disks, they are taken from shoddy workprint materials (with a claim from Paramount stating that the cut scenes only exist in workprint form). Again it's funny, because most of the foreign release DVD's have the cut scenes and, from what I have heard, are in better shape than the workprint scenes! Since Paramount DOES OWN exclusive rights, you would think that they would get the original materials back.
