Well, the spifter, There's quite a bit of good stop-motion films out there......How about the Eborskis from Willow? That thing was awesome.

Anything with Ray Harryhausen stuff in it is good. The movies may not always have much of a plot but his sfx make up for it.  The guys a genius! Anything that was done after him is just a copy.  There is good stop motion in Star wars, terminator, robo cop, The Medevil dead (especially that bit when Bad Ash is growing out of good Ash's body, actually that's more like pixilation.) I actually do animation so any info you want I'm you girl.  (Yes that's right I'm not a guy.)

Also look up an English animator called Barry Purves, he's amazing.

The coolest stop motion animation films I've ever seen were by the Brothers Quay also some Russian cartoon collection and Harry Housen's Mother Goose stuff is always good to.

If Ray is the guy I think he is (Jason and the Argonauts and stuff) then yes his stuff is amazing. I also clay the end of Evil Dead Claymation and Pee Wee' "Large Marge" Claymation sequence. Stop-Motion in general is dying breed now :(

ya eborsisk was wicked cool is willow. What about the scene at the end of evil dead. That was awsome. Also the monster from metamorphasis:the alien factor was great. And lastly the scene in jason and the argonauts where he has to fight off the skeletons was genious.

I really like the Ymir.  To be honest, it was my first stop-motion monster that I thought was really creative.

"The Valley of Gwangi" is my personal favorite,  live cowboys roping stop motion dinosaurs.  The skill needed to do those shots must be incredible.  On the cheaper side I also liked the "Robot Jox" stop motion.  Something about stop motion and giant robots just seem to work incredibly well, the process lent a real quality to the bots.

I'm with Ed -- great beast, that ol' Ymir.   Just don't poke him with a stick . . .  Great fight with the elephant, which had to be shot just so, with the elephant ever so slightly disproportionate.
I love all the black-and-white Harryhausen & O'Brian stuff -- that giant octopus tentacle coming up over the bridge makes its way into so many clip-shows . . .
But for Lawd's sake, fellow film geeks, a topic on stop-motion animation & nobody brings up Wallace and Gromit?  Think of the Hitchcockian overtones of "The Wrong Trousers".  I mean, when stop-motion animation can evoke Hitchcock or "The Third Man", then it's passed into some realm beyond mere technique.  Plus, that penguin's a real s.o.b. . . .

TCM recently ran a stop-motion comedy from 1928 featuring a comedian named Charlie Bowers, who was I believe credited with inventing stop-motion. It was called the "Bowers Process" at the time.

Not only does Bowers have stop-motion bug for a sidekick, but at one point you see a picture on the wall move.

Floating around somewhere out there are the test-shots for the stop motion Phil Tippet was going to use in Jurassic Park before they went CG.  I wish I could find them again now, because sweet monkey Jesus it was incredible.

Brother Ragnarok that is nothing, you should really see footage in the Dragon Slayer film. You would never believe that was stop motion. That dragon is better than cg. I say go back with  dinamation(motion blurred stop motion).

Dragon Slayer was done with a process Phil came up with called  "go motion".

Go-Motion
A form of animation similar to stop motion, but which incorporates motion blur. Ordinary stop motion cannot produce motion blur as motion only occurs between frames. Robotic models that are moved during the exposure of each frame produce motion blur, and thus are more realistic. Pioneered by Industrial Light and Magic for Dragonslayer.

Oh wow, I didn't even take Nick Park into account.  That is the absolute  best modern stop motion.  Comedy  central has his TV show about talking animals( Creature comforts).  They asked people on the street questions and animated their asnwers.  Its a hoot.
