This is mostly a question for Andrew,

When this site first opened, I read you were forced to choose the URL www.badmovies.org because of a conflict between some of the people over at Stomp Tokyo. They apparently stole the website www.badmovies.com right from underneath your nose without even contacting you, along with other very common bad movie related website names. This of course is old and painful news, but I bring it up for this reason:

www.badmovies.com is no longer an active site. At one time it was used by the people at Stomp Tokyo as an accessory to their main website, but has since fallen into no use. Have you as the webmaster considered moving the website to the badmovies.com URL? What kind of work would that take? Being that it was your first choice, do you have any emotional attachment to the .com?

If this seems random... well it is. I merely checked it on a whim after remembering what Andrew wrote about the whole conflict. That's all I have to say.

Oh, by the way. We're glad to have you back Andrew. I think I can speak for everybody here and say we are grateful for the time and effort you have put into making this website a lucrative source of information on all our favorite bad movies. And as a loyal visitor for 4 years now, I personally thank you for your work.

Y'know I know I'm coming off the side lines here but I think BadMovies.org has a nice ring to it. I've been saying "ORG" not "O-R-G" and org has always sounded like an odd groan when a person is watching sayyy Manos the HAnds of Fate. It's alway fit with me. For some reason BadMovies.com sounds kind of cheesy, I like the groan more than the cheese.

But if Andrew where to think about changing it then it's HIS decision.

Now it's time to sing the nation anthem IN AMERICA!!!

I also like the sound of 'Org'. Plus badmovies.com seems like just another website put together by a bunch of nutters. badmovies.org, on the contrary suggests that there is an actual organisation behind it, that might even do some serious study and analysis. I say: Keep the Org!

Scott H, you've got some problems with your chronology.

Badmovies.com was registered by the domain speculator who still holds it (not the Stomp Tokyo people) in 1997; Andrew registered badmovies.org in 1998 because the .com was taken.

A few years later, there was some agitation about strictly allowing only non-profits to use .org domain names, so Andrew took a look at badmovies.net and discovered that the Stomp Tokyo guys had registered it in the meantime, in 2001.  As he was in close company with them at that time, he was very offended that they would register a domain that he saw as stepping on his turf.  (The Stomp Tokyo guys registered every bad movie domain name imaginable -- badmovieplanet.com, badmoviezone.com, b-movies.com, etc. -- before they had uses for them.)

To my knowledge, there has never been a website at badmovies.com; it certainly never held Stomp Tokyo content.  Last I heard, Andrew still gets an occasional email from the broker holding badmovies.com, offering him the domain name for an exorbitant sum.

Ha, that gut must be losing money on keeping the .com.  Maybe he should lower his price.

Or maybe he should just stick it up his a$$...

Somehow...."org" just seem right for a Marine.

"Aggressivlly eccentric, and proud of it!"

Ah, old wounds.

Nathan supplied a good chronology.  That is pretty much what I can describe and remember.

There has never been a website at www.badmovies.com.  The "TM Acquisition Corp" owns the domain and has just sat on it.  I keep watching for their hold on it to expire, but just to get the domain away from squatters.  The site will remain Badmovies.org, no matter what.

This all kind of reminds me of a big mean game of Monopoly.

I too like ".org".
Org sounds a little like "Ugh!" which Dave pointed out is one of the sounds one makes when watching a really bad movie.
