LAST COMMAND (1955) - The last film made by Republic Pictures. It's a pre-John Wayne Alamo film that is very good in my opinion. Sterling Hayden stars as David Bowie and in fact the movie focuses around the character of David Bowie. Ernest Borgnine and Slim Pickens also have roles in this one. The attack on the Alamo was a good one. It played on TCM the other day.

Now that would be a different kind of movie David Bowie at the Alamo playing himself. When Santa Anna signals the bugler Bowie sings "Lets Dance". Does it help if I say I meant to say that ? : )



An epic story that focuses on David Bowie in concert at the Alamo. In a Bugle vs the Saxaphone extravanza. I might even pay to see that one.

I thought you meant it was a film about David Bowie at the Alamo Rent-a-Car station in an airport. He is repeating the scene from AIRPLANE where Robert Stack takes on the zealots while walking through the airport.

If it does take place at the Alamo mission, is there a commanding officer named Major Tom? ( :

I think that is the the same film. Not sure..................... I'll have to check.

This is the film John Wayne wanted to make . . . in conjunction with Republic Pictures, but there was creative disagreements and a parting of the ways. None too amicable from what I understand. Republic Pictures would make this one, and Wayne would make his five years later.

Of course, if one wants to really know what happened . . . then hold out for last year's "The Alamo." From what I understand, the closest thing yet to the truth, as far as we know it. I hope there is a director's cut, because if the film is anything like the novelization of the screenplay, which I also recommend, there was alot cut out of the film shown in theaters.

Very entertaining movie, I liked Aurthur Hunnicutt as Davy Crockett, nice to see gool ol Jim Davis in there, too.

Yes, Boyscoutkevin TCM talked alot about John Wayne and Republic Pictures after the film. It was a good film and I always like TCM's commentary about their films. I always associated the Alamo with Crockett being the main character because of the John Waynes film as a kid and Jim Bowie was sick in bed, but this picture was interesting in how they changed the story with Jim Bowie being the central character. Even if it wasn't acurrate film. Well done and entertaining.
