forgot the title of a movie

i have been searching for years for a b-movie that i have a vague memory of as a child.  nobody i speak to remembers the bizarre story line.

a gorilla set loose in a city (new york?)  goes into a murderous rampage when he hears the jingle of a womens bangles/bracelets.

anybody know what this is? it may have been black and white.

I think it is.  I'm a big fan of that movie.  The claymation  of the ape's expressions is great.  It also provided a bonding moment with my dad.

It's definitely not MIGHTY JOE YOUNG.  You're probably thinking of PHANTOM OF THE RUE MORGUE (1954).
