David Cronenberg's DEAD RINGERS

Okay, let me start out with a few introductory facts:

*  I had never seen DEAD RINGERS until last night (I got the DVD in the mail a couple of days ago);

*  I am a David Cronenberg fan (especially his early stuff like SHIVERS and RABID);

*  I am a fan of weird, surreal movies (such as David Lynch films like ERASERHEAD, MULHOLLAND DRIVE, and BLUE VELVET);

*  I suspect that DEAD RINGERS is at least a minor classic.

Now . . . can someone tell me what the hell this movie is about?  I suspect I will need to watch it 2 or 3 times to really appreciate it.  Any comments?
