THE NIGHT STRANGLER (1973) - Good made for TV film directed by Dan Curtis. The DVD comes with both THE NIGHT STALKER and THE NIGHT STRANGLER and comes with a good Dan Curtis interview about both films. Dan Curtis is a very good director who has made a few films that I like SCREAM OF THE WOLF, DRACULA, and even a few DARK SHADOWS. movies.



THE NIGHT STRANGLER also has cameo's by Margaret Hamilton, Al Lewis, and Wally Cox. Different and fun. I liked the narration intro technique.

Kolchak: The Night Stalker is one of my favorite shows to come out of the 70s.  Darren McGavin was a great lead, and the stories were quite interesting/inventive...for the time at least.

The series was bashed all to hell by an ocean of critics, but what the hell do they count?  It was one of my favorites growing up, and I'm glad to see it has such a cult following. I dread the upcoming remake.
Both Stalker and Strangler had a bite (forgive the pun), moody and funny at the same time.  McGavin was a hoot.  Dan Curtis knocked out such entries as Dark Shadows, Burnt Offerings, War and Remembrance, and The Norliss Tapes(!), and produced the 1968 TV version of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde with Jack Palance.

You can't beat Kolchak. I loved the show as a kid, and after working 17 years  in the newspaper business, I enjoy it on a whole other level.

Think I'll change my quote to something from Kolchak. It's overdue.

I like the idea in the in THE NIGHT STRANGLER of how the newspaper won't cover his story because even if  true nobody would believe it, so the newpaper fabricates an ending that people can and will believe.

This tidbit in the film THE NIGHT STRANGLER is such an important insight of how things sometimes work in the real world especially in todays world that should be remembered. If it's to much for the masses to swallow then it isn't told or it's not allowed to be told due to political and/or economic reasons. The story just dosn't get covered. We are spoon fed our facts through the media and believe them as truth. Everyone gets bent out of shape due to something that could be fabricated by the powers that be. The world is a very sick place in this regard.

The sequel to "The Night Stalker," which I need to see. This was my introduction to Darren McGavin as Kolchak. Something of a favorite of mine, it supposedly took place near where I was living at the time.
