HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN (1987) - Low budget film starring pro wrestler Roddy Piper and Sandal Bergman (of Conan the Barbarian). It's really the definition of a bad movie. Pudgy faced Roddy Piper has to help free some fertile woman from Frogs in Frog territory. He is also one of those rare fertile males and he signs a contract to get out of jail that includes mating with the fertile woman. Piper even has to wear a special belt to protect the goverments investment. Bergman is along for the ride in some kind of pink machine gun topped vehicle. This one hurt................................... Picked it up for $3.99 on DVD.

Check out Andrew review: HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN

The film reminds me of A BOY AND HIS DOG and it isn't as good as Roddy Pipers role in THEY LIVE !

Yes, Piper was better in They Live, but this is still a very enjoyable cheesefest. I bought an edited version (the original was rated R; mine is G to PG), and it is not nearly as good as the R version. Which version did you get? Mine was also a horrible transfer; it was far too dark to see much. I'm looking for a better release. Where did you find it so cheap?

Bought it at ACME supermarket and it's distributed by Top Ten New Media Production Limited (TOP). The transfer is a little weak and I can't image an R rating on this copy, so I must have picked up the PG copy.

What were the extra cut outs?

Derf

The cutouts were mostly involving nudity if I recall. They weren't that sexy, but they at least made the movie seem a bit more believable in context; Spangle (Sandahl Bergman) is "enticed" to turn on Sam Hell through a ceremony that, on my transfer, is so short as to be nonexistent. In the full movie, this ceremony is much more effective. Then there's all the incidental nude shots that add a bit to the atmosphere and sometimes the comedy. It's not really much to go on, but it makes the dance of the three snakes a bit more endurable. I'm speaking strictly from memory; I haven't seen the full version for more than 10 years (maybe fifteen). It all comes down to whether you can have a sex comedy with no sex, and the answer in this case is, with the level of performers we're dealing with, no.

If you didn't like the movie at all without the nudity, you probably wouldn't like the full version any better--the movies I thought were extremely sexy in the 80s are invariably quite scary watched today, and not in a good way. However, if you enjoyed the cut version, the added scenes do make some difference.

I have to see this one!!!
From the first time I´ve heard about it, I was interested in this b-movie.
After I´ve seen the frog-pictures in Andrew´s review I got keen on it.

Roody Piper is not that bad as actor. I saw him in a movie that was about aliens that infiltrated and ruled the world. Piper finds special sun-glasses that allow him to see their real appearance (forgot the name of this movie).

That would be They Live, Piper's best performance that I've seen outside of the WWF/E. Try to get the R version of Hell Comes to Frogtown, as I said. The transfer is likely much better and the story makes at least a bit more sense.

I definately saw the cut version.

Scott, when you said it hurt was that a joking remark about the price?  I have to say that I enjoy this one and, for once, it is not just me.  Even a couple of normal friends liked the movie, once they gave it a chance.  Roddy is doing his loud acting bit, which comes across as pretty funny, Bergman was just plain perfect as the Med-Tech, and some of the little quirks are fun.  Like when Bull is cutting the gonad cruncher belt off of Roddy with a chainsaw.  The thing is crunching, causing Roddy to scream, "Get it off!  It's killing me!" (or something like that).  Bull just looks at him and says, "Man, you are one weird dude!"  This coming from a man with a frog head.

The DVD transfer is, as expected, the best I have ever seen.

Aw man this was ANOTHER movie that the blockbuster down the street from me had once upon a time when only about %10 horror and sci-fi movies that were made within the last five years. (Not it's all this straight to video s**t that is so unentertaining. A few are good but most arn't)

Now it's time to sing the nation anthem IN AMERICA!!!

I must admit that the whole movie concept for HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN was quite entertaining, and that is why I bought the DVD, but it may have been just a little too low budget. I was a big Roddy Piper fan in the 80's and was looking forward to viewing this one. It's a good B-Movie, but I think I was hoping for a classic B-movie with Piper in this strange film. Really enjoyed THEY LIVE ! .

I love HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN!  The Dance of the Three Serpents has to be seen to be believed.  Definitely go for the R cut though.  Can't imagine how bad this one would be watered down.
