I know there's a submisson page for us to submit our own reveiws and everything but I just wanted to ask if it would be allright to post some of them here or not?

I wanted to ask before I broke any rules....

God, why did some moron decide to ruin the Dukes Of Hazard with Jessica Simspon as Daisy? Yeaaaaauuurrrgggghhh--the HORROR!

A question I had as well but never got around to asking.  How rigid is the review format?

I think it's okay to post whatever review you want in whatever format you want here in the forum.  It's just between us that way.  It's not an "official" badmovies.org review.

If you take a gander at the forum, you'll see we all give movies we watch quick and dirty or rather in depth reviews.

As for the reader submitted "official" reviews, I *think* that service/feature has been disabled for quite a while.  Maybe Andrew will re-activate it at some point, but until then, the forum is just that: a forum, and reviews are fair game.

Bodie:      I've been giving myself shock treatments.
Professor Hathaway: Up the voltage.

If you want to post reviews in plain text format and get some feedback, you should try the Jabootu.com phorum, as I think it has a dedicated section.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

One thing...
If you post one on this board....DOUBLE SPACE IT!!!!!!!

I refuse to read reviews that aren't double spaced.

¿Qué?

Do you mean spaces in between paragraphs?  If you do, I agree that it is easier on the eyes and breaks up the review making it easier to read.  In fact, on larger sites with user reviews (IMDb, Amazon), I usually skip the reviews that aren't properly formatted.  If the person didn't even take the time to properly format their review, the chances they have anything interesting to say are greatly reduced.  Hell, I'll review even a small post like this one to make sure it works.

But, I've also been in school way too long, so when I hear the words "double spaced"

I picture paragraphs that are broken up with a space between every line, much

like this paragraph I am writing now.

Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

The man gets a review on this site and thinks he knows all there is to know about reviewing.  For shame! :-P

The Ice Pirates by ASHTHECAT

Read the review and take notes on how it should be done in the eyes of Ash, our very own Review Nazi!!

[note the effective use, or lack thereof, of double spacing to give you an idea]

Also Ash, I just have to ask, why was there a special mention to Raj for that review?  Never noticed that until just now...

Another Nazi?  Damn, I thought I was the only one.  On other boards I'm known as the 'Anal Thread Nazi', due to my obsession with continuity.....

Ash

Actually, there are a few typos I noticed on my review.  Most noticably the mispelling of Ron Perlman's name.  I spelled his last name as "Pearlman".
Gonna have to e-mail Andrew to see if he'll change them.

Review Nazi....LOL!!
I ain't that bad!

I gave special thanks to Raj because when I first wrote that review like 3 years ago, I e-mailed it to him to get a second opinion and he pointed out a few things that could be changed and worded better.

Just Plain Horse

Things I think all reviews should have (as if anybody is gonna go to the trouble...)

Best Known Title: For more obscure movies, this is important... is it The Dark or The Mutilator? It's both, and both suck.

Most Absurd Alternate Title: This may be difficult... Great Monster War is the only alternate I could find for Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, but at least it's something different...

What format/version you like seeing it in the most: I know most greenhorns are going to say DVD everytime, but every once in a blue moon you run across a film you can only see- or have only seen- in VHS or some even more archaic form (like network television... it's the only way I can get through The Day The Earth Stood Still or Village of the Damned); plus, if the film is foriegn, it would be helpful to others to let them know if you saw it subtitled or dubbed (and if the latter, who made a p**s poor translation of it). This will also let people know if you're either too cheap (like me) to buy the damn thing or too much of a p***y (not like me, unless I'm eating) to watch the unedited version.

What the critics said: It doesn't matter who it is, if you can find one person's opinion that seems either fairly on the mark or completely opposite of your own viewpoint, jot it down; check your sources! (I like to find ones that make them sound like complete idiots... it's more fun that way...)

Opening thoughts: Ever have a movie either blow you away... or just blow? You don't need a hundred words here, just some minor comment to give others an idea of what was on your mind at the time. Maybe you just got off your job in sanitation and sat down to watch Alligator or Street Trash...

Review: No point explaining this one, everyone has their own style here... No film should be exempt! Be it student film, made-for-tv, even music video (I look forward to the day I can write a review online of Pink Floyd: Live At Pompeii). If you love it, try to explain... and if not... ehhh, try to use metaphors that are a bit more creative than "sucks donkey dong" or scatalogical references... would you want to read about s**t? Don't overstrain yourself now, there's no need to force it...

Favorite moment: Mystery Science Theater used to end their program by showing what they playfully referred to as a "stinger", a moment from the film that just made you go "huh?" Of course, being broadcast on tv, they had limits on what was their favorite moment they could share....

I always liked the way Jabootu's reviews ended with a long intricate follow up on most of the major players in the film... but I'm not going to go to that much trouble, so I can hardly expect you to do the same, now can I?
