Well, ladies and gentlemen, I have begun my latest hairbrained act. I'm beginning to lay the foundations for a screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey accompanied by live orchestra and opera. I don't know what is possessing me to do this, but I have an insatiable urge to pull this all together.

Since I live in a college town, I have access to all the resources: an orchestra, a chamber opera, a large screening facility, and a legit 16 or 35mm copy of the movie to show. My next step? Find the money to convince people it's going to be successful. I may have access to the stuff, but it doesn't mean they're going to listen to me without a sound financial backing.

I don't have much else to report other than I think I'm going to kill myself by the time I finish college. Tell me what you think; and if you had the opportunity, would you go?

Strangely enough, I could see this working. Hell, the movie has very little diaglogue and they opted to use classical music for the score which fits perfectly with vistas portrayed in the movie. .

I personally think it's a totally cool idea and wish you good luck at getting some backing for it. If I lived nearby I would drop the change to see it.

By the way, it doesn't sound hair-brained at all. Let's call it a bit of artistic thinking. I'd be terribly surprised if you are the first to think of it.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

I think it sounds like a cool idea if it is done right. Good luck.

Scottie,

I think it's a great idea, and since I live in NC, I'm considering going.

Just post when and where, once the details are worked out.

I like the idea as well, seems doable and quite coool. Keep us informed of problems / progress, will you?
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

Go Scottie, you're the man with the plan!

Is it possible to get funding from your local council perhaps?  This sounds like the sort of idea which would go down really well, especially with the filmic buff socialites that would normally attend the 'classy' cinema near my house or those with a big interest in watching cool movies/orchestras/Scottie do his thing on stage.

I'd definitely come to see it, unfortunately that would be a couple of thousand dollars, and as such is a little much for me [unless you can find it in your funding to provide me with a plane ticket :)]
