THE SWORD OF LANCELOT (1963) - Wow, great film about Lancelot and the legendary tale. Most of the films about King Arthur and Camelot are shot with a fantasy look and approach. This one produced, directed, and starring Cornel Wilde is more like a medieval epic. Conel Wilde also starred in CONSTANTINE AND THE CROSS (1962) which was also good, but THE SWORD OF LANCELOT (1963) was his better film. Jean Wallace as Guinevere was also really great. It's the first time that I can recall having seen this fine film that I bought on DVD for $1 at Walmart. This movie is great from beginning to end. If you like these type films then you really like this one as the action is well done and often bloody with grusome deaths from swords and arrows that must be some of the very first graphic head and shoulder strikes of the kind. There are a lot a great versions of Arthurian Legends and this is one of them. Anyone see this one before?

BoyScoutKevin

Yes. Seen them both. Enjoyed them both.

As for graphic violence, the first graphic death by arrow I can remember is in 1958's "The Vikings," when a man was shot through the throat. The first graphic death by sword I can remember is in 1916's "Intolerance," when a man was decapitated on camera.

But, there was something about the films Cornel Wilde made as director/producer/writer ("Beach Red," "Naked Prey," etc.) They were always graphically violent. Or, at least, graphically violent for the time they were made.

This is allegedly the film wherein Tony Curtis gave the line:
"Yondah is de castle of my faddah!"
True or not?

I have no idea what this means.

ARRGh!
My mistake:
"Black Shield of Farnsworth" -- but this film IS famous for some sort of snigglebrip -- Did you see any/hear any obvious errors?

I have no idea what this means.
