Hey there,

Can anyone tell me if the Blood Trilogy Boxset contains the best dvd available versions of the movies contained there in. By best I mean, having the most extras and best print of the film. From what I can tell the dvds are the same both in the set and seperate, so either way you get the same features, but minus the box set packaging. Can anyone verify this for me? Also, just out of curiousity I was wonder if Herschell Gordon Lewis, latest film Blood Feast 2 was shot on video or not. Thanks for any help.

The Burgomaster

I bought all of the movies in this set individually before they were offered in a boxed set.  They are from SOMETHING WEIRD, one of my favorite DVD companies, and to my knowledge, they are the ONLY versions available on DVD.  The picture and sound quality are very good, and they include the following "extras":

BLOOD FEAST - Audio commentary by H.G. Lewis and David F. Friedman / theatrical trailer / a short subject titled CARVING MEAT / gallery of exploitation art.

COLOR ME BLOOD RED - Audio commentary by H.G. Lewis and David F. Friedman / theatrical trailer / outtakes / gallery of exploitation art.

TWO THOUSAND MANIACS! - Audio commentary by H.G. Lewis and David F. Friedman / theatrical trailer / outtakes / stills and gallery of exploitation art.

I have not seen BLOOD FEAST 2, so I can't comment on that one.

Thank you very much  for the information, I'm off to order the set now!

One thing I forgot to add . . . I'm not sure what aspect ratio these movies were filmed in, but the DVDs are full screen versions.  Of course, you don't really need widescreen to enjoy these movies.  They don't include many breathtaking scenes of mountains, prairies, etc., that would look better in widescreen.

I'm pretty sure that's the original aspect ratio-- widescreen didn't really come into vogue until the fifties (to give movies an edge over TV), and it was still expensive enough by the sixties that most low-budget exploitation films were still shot fullscreen.

I have the Something Wierd version of "Colour Me Blood Red" and the transfer is better than I expected,  but then again my expectations were pretty low going into it.

But I was happy with the quality overall, so it was all good!
