I'm looking for a movie I saw on television back in the late '70s or early '80s, which I think may have been a Blaxploitation Flick.

From what I recall, the movie opens with several cars driving to a funeral. In one of the cars, a group of white guys start painting their faces black.

A black teenager with a football steps into traffic. He glares for a moment at a car that stops for him, then moves on.

Everyone pulls into a cemetery where a group of stereotypical ‘70s TV pimps are holding a funeral. As they are watching, one of the men in blackface is suddenly shot in the neck with an arrow, and the camera cuts to a pimp holding a bow. At this point, the casket pops open, and a pimp with a machine gun jumps out & starts shooting.

A gun battle erupts, and the pimp that jumped out of the casket gets killed and falls back into it.

In the ensuing chase scene that occurs, we cut back to the teenager with the football. He’s playing catch with a friend when he sees the cars coming. He throws the football at one of the cars, and it turns out to be a bomb.

There’s a big wreck, and two black detectives pull up & jump out of their car to find a woman was killed in the chase, though I don’t recall whether she was an innocent pedestrian, or if she was in the car being chased.

The last part I recall, the two black detectives are in their captain’s office, and end up turning in their badges & guns. As they are handing over their guns, one of them takes off his shoe & removes the arch support to reveal a derringer hidden in a hollowed out heel, which he places on the captain’s desk.

That's all I really remember. It was probably my bedtime or something by that point.

Oops! I probably should've pointed out that the funeral was a ploy to lure the cops into an ambush.

The casket was definately a much better disguise than the white guys donning black facepaint & afro wigs so they could blend in.

This sounds like it might be either COTTON COMES TO HARLEM or its sequel COME BACK, CHARLESTON BLUE.  I think the cops you are talking about are Coffin Ed Johnson (played by Raymond St. Jacques) and Gravedigger Jones (played by Godfrey Cambridge).  The funeral scene you described sounds very familiar.

I bet Quentin Tarantino would know.

That guy knows everything about Blaxploitation films.

When licerberus mentioned two black cops, Chester Himes came to my mind as well. Problem is, I haven't seen any of the movies inpired in his novels.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.
