The Criterion Collection is finally releasing a DVD of CLEAN, SHAVEN this October.  This after years of only being available in a discontinued VHS version.

CLEAN, SHAVEN is one of the most brutal and realistic depictions of severe schizophrenia I have ever seen.  Forget that BEAUTIFUL MIND crap ("A beautiful mystery" indeed), this movie is heartbreaking, terrifying, and at times completely disgusting.  (If you've seen it, you know what scene I'm talking about.)  The movie follows a man suffering from schizophrenia as he tries to track down his daughter.  The film is told from an almost entirely subjective point of view, that of the schizophrenic, only occasionaly pulling back to reveal his inability to mesh with the rest of the world.

I've only seen this once, and it's been quite a few years.  I'm glad it's finally seeing the light of day again, and from Criterion, no less.  If you're a fan of disturbing films, which I know quite a few of you are, check it out.

October, just in time for Halloween.

Addendum:  Apparently there is already a DVD available for this movie.  Who knew?  Nobody.  Well, check it out anyway; it's good.
Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.
