Please have pity on a poor computer illiterate --
Everyone else here seems able to make stuff work but I can't --
All I want to do is find an avatar & choose it & add it to my posts, so I can be normal like the rest of you --
I go to profile and can find the modify stuff, but nothing about avatars --
please help --

Hit the "Profile" button, then under "Modify Profile", hit "Forum Profile Information".
At the top of the page, you will have three options of using one of SMF's avataters, posting a link you pic, or uploading your own.
This new forum doesn't say anything about file size or deminsion limitations.

To set an avatar, go to the middle top menu and pick "Profile."

From the next screen, go to the menu on the left and pick "Forum Profile Information."

From there you can pick three options:  Top is preloaded (I am adding new ones to the badmovies set as I find fitting ones).  The middle is to put in the address of a image you want to use.  The bottom is to upload a picture from your hard drive.

Avatar settings are still the same:  no larger than 100 by 100 pixels and file size under 30 KB.

If you are still having problems, just email me the picture you want to use and I will set it for you.  If it will not work the problem is probably the dimensions or the file size.  You should be able to check most on your computer by right clicking on the file (in windows explorer or such) and going to properties.
