Since I plan to write a reader review for a couple of well-known late 70s gang movies, I  thought a poll was in order.  Which gang is your favorite from the late 70s gang movies set in New York City and why?

Although I like many of the gangs from each movie, my vote goes for the Ducky Boys from "The Wanderers" because they just creep me out.  With their lack of voice, ability to show up or vanish out of nowhere, and their urge to kill.

I gotta go with the Fordam Baldies, cause I  was born on Fordam, in the Bronx;about a block or two from Poe Park.

Dude!
The Coney Island Warriors of course!

I own the Ultimate Director's Cut of The Warriors on DVD.

I just wished James Remar's character hadn't got busted by the cops.
Getting handcuffed to a park bench by a lady cop would royally suck.

Awesome movie any way you slice it!

Yeah it's an awesome movie - I wouldn't necessarily call it "bad" but it's definitely a 4 to 5 slime of a good time b-movie.  I've already started work on the review.  The Wanderers is just as good, although in a different way - it has more social commentary but a few less awesome fights.

Wow that's pretty cool.  So you'll be the expert on whether they were accurate with the scene locations?  I'm probably not going to tackle that aspect of the shows since I've not been to NYC and know next to nothing about those geographical details.  Question though, did you not vote as I don't see a percentage for the Fordham Baldies (just curious)?

Like Ash I too own the own the Ultimate Director's Cut of The Warriors. I mean as a New Yorker its a must have.   :teddyr:

I also own the video game that came out on PS2.

I voted for the Warriors. I would vote for Roller Bibs but as a Punk myself  I don't see or know alot of Punks on rollerskates so their posers  :tongueout:.  Tied for second would be the Turbo A.C. (Who are really Punks Anarchists in particular) and Baseball Furies.

Heres a bit usless info :Both Baseball Furies and Turbo A.Cs names are used by two Punk bands that I have CDs for.

Wow, I really need to watch both of these films again. Haven't seen them in many many years. THE WANDERERS is a great film and THE WARRIORS concept was/is to awesome not to like it. I'm going to pick the Baseball gang since they stand out in my mind at this moment. Of course The Warriors gang was cool.

Anyone every see Eric Estrada in THE CROSS AND THE SWITCHBLADE (1970)? When I was about 14 years old a group of traveling evangelist came to our small town Fire Station preaching the gospel and they showed this film. It was actually pretty good film.

I'm not that familiar with the movie, so can't remember what happened, but my mind can take me to a few scenarios where that could work for me ;)

I can't say it took place in the Bronx or not.I was born there, and left at the age of four. That would have been in 1966. I went back in 1979 ,and it looks like New York, but the only places I went to was the Bronx Zoo,Poe Park, the liquer store around the block, and the news stand.Oh yeah, and the guy who sold pot in front of the boardered up laundry mat(he used to call pot "chiba(?)".It was quite a mess, thats fer sure.

Never watched Wanderers, but I am a big fan of the Warriors.

Great movie, lots of fun.

Apparently there's a remake in the works which could be interesting.  Also the videogame was meant to be a bit of a hit [whether or not it was good I don't know, but still]

It's been awhile since I've seen it.
I've watched the director's commentary by Walter Hill and if I remember correctly, the opening scenes where all the gang members get together to listen to Cyrus were shot in the Bronx.

Damn...both of these movies have some great scenes!   I also love the slang they use in The Warriors - I remember being a kid, watching it on The Movie Channel and sayin' things like "boppin" "can you dig it?" and "those chicks are packed!" lol   What is really funny is that all of my friends in grade school at the time knew the same slang!  Funny thing about those early movie channels -no regard for audience age differentiation at that time lol.  If my mother only knew half the things I saw at the time lol.

I still crack up at the "elbow tit" scene in The Wanderers, the scene at the bowling alley is cool too, the strip poker game, and ya can't forget the football game at the end.  The Warriors had some great action too -  the fight at the end in the subway bathroom with the farmers wearing roller skates -that was effing brutal!

Ok, I'm going on too much  - I need to save some of it for the review, which I'm hoping to have by the new year (but no promises -I have such a full plate and little time to actually watch movies anymore).
