Mr. DS

In the Hollywood realm of countless clone chick flicks (Titanic, The Notebook) , I always appreciate a chick flick (guys with significant others may relate) that make things entertaining for guys who get dragged to watch it on date night.

I was thinking the other day about movies I've seen with my wife that she selected which I actually enjoyed.  Heres two I can think of;

Mean Girls - Actually a really funny Heathers Esq commentary son high school cliques.  Best part is when the coach says to his students in health class that if they undress and touch each other that they would get VD and die.

Josie And The p***ycats - Surprisingly a hilarious plot line in which an evil record corporation puts subliminal messages into their records.  Josie and The p***ycats go to battle against them.  Goofy and pretty darn funny.  They have a boyband named Du Jour which is pretty fun on it's own.

Anybody else think of movies meant for girls that guys may like?

Dude...there's absolutely nothing wrong with certain so-called "chick flicks".
Certain ones...mind you.  Not all.  There are a few that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy.

I own a few DVD titles that upon first glance, the average guy would consider a chick flick.

I own "The Good Girl" starring Jennifer Aniston.
A fantastic film!
Read Ebert's review here

Another favorite I own is "Girl With a Pearl Earring" starring Scarlett Johanssen.
Ebert gave it 4 stars.  Read his review
I totally agree with him.

One of the best so-called chick flicks I own is Boys Don't Cry with Hilary Swank.
An awesome movie!  Swank deserved that Oscar she received.  Her performance was probably one of the best I have ever seen in any film.

Every "chick flick" I own is widely considered by most critics to be a very good movie.
And...if you're a single guy like me, chicks you date can and do scan your library of movies to see what you have.

I don't own these films simply to impress the oposite sex...
I own them because they are good movies and I like them.

I, myself, enjoy the series of films "Where the Boys Aren't" 1 through 8....

The closest thing I came to a "chick flick" is Chasing Amy.

I avoid Chick Flicks at all cost.

But I must say I enjoy 9 to 5.

I dunno. My old lady thought MONSTER was a chick flik.(yaknow, the won about Aileen Wournos.) I enjoyed that.
I liked ...oh...wait...no I didn"t.
"TARA! Did I like any of your movies?"
"WHAT"
"You know,like a chick flik!"
"The PRINCESS BRIDE!"
"Uh...think of another one..."
"HAPPY TEXAS!"
"Well'no...I...I..."
"MEET MR.JOE BLACK!"
"Uh...OK..."
My answer is MEET JOE BLACK.
Supernatural?...perhaps. Baloney?...Perhaps not!" Bela Lugosi-the BLACK CAT (1934)

Lugosi-"No. Dracula-never ends."

I'm not sure if it classifies as a "Chick Flick" but I love Sense and Sensibility. It's slow moving, talky and about as exciting as watching paint dry, but I still love that film.

I caught Mean Girls for the first time a week or so back and enjoyed it. Plus, it has Tina Fey, the hottest geek chick around. I also have a soft spot for the first Legally Blonde.

I think that "Heathers" probably qualifies and I am amused by that film.

Here's one that I really think is a good one, The Sum of Us, stars Russel Crowe as  gay plumber, set in Australia, my wife, who is a big fan of his got this one on dvd, I have to admit that it is a good movie mainly because of him.
I've seen and enjoyed most of the movies listed except for Josie and the p***ycats, for some reason I just could sit through it.

Some friends literally dragged me to a theatre some days ago to watch "The Holiday", starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Jude Law. Worst film I've ever seen.

Avoid at all costs. By which I mean that if your girlfriend / wife / lover wants to see it, just break up, it will be far less painful, and probably the suffering will be even shorter, because that movie drags around 140 minutes.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

Right now The Other Half is dying to see The Devil Wears Prada and just doesn't seem to believe me when I tell her there is a short wait for it on Netflix and horror movies keep showing up in the mail. :teddyr:

I suppose I'm a bad victim of enjoying what could be regarded as 'chick flicks' way too often, but most are truly a relatively untapped resource of B-movie gold!

I mean, some are so ridiiculous that you just can't help but laugh at the utter stupidity of them.

One such example is the fun I had watching "Glitter"

It's a terrible terrible movie that, in my eyes at least, redeems itself in it's unintentional idiocy.  I'm sure that Mariah Carey thought she was making a great movie, but it does sure feel that everyone else is in on the joke that is how crap the film is.

I personally think it was the overuse of 'fade to white' that really got me enjoying it.

Plenty of others out there as well, but Glitter is one I actually reccommend to people who want to torture themselves into laughing.

My wife wants to see this one too, so I guess I'll bite the bullet and pick it up from blockbuster, along with 3 or 4 action, sci-fi, monster movies of course, who knows,  it might be good, I may even enjoy it, even though I really can't stand Meryl Streep and I have a feeling that the funniest stuff was shown in the trailers.
