AMAZONIA: The Katherine Miles Story (1985) - Wow, this is the story of a young woman who's parents are killed and captured my Amazon natives. Her parents heads are displayed in the village like trophies and she learns to live with them. If you've seen any of the Italian jungle films and like them then you'll love this one. It's actually has a interesting story.

  (7 out of 10 Stars) Not for everyone. Very gory.

I haven't had the chance to see this one yet.  A book I have, "Eaten Alive: Italian Cannibal and Zombie Movies" spoke rather dismissively about it.  But let's face it, if you're even going to try sampling this particular genre, you have to allow a little leeway.  We're not talking Merchant-Ivory here!

Fascinating thing about all these Italo-Cannibal films is the way they have each built on, taken off from, ripped off and redone each prior one starting in the early 70s and culminating around the time of AMAZONIA.  It's as if the entire genre was one single film production that never actually finished and was perpetually screened over and over in it's gradually morphing state.

When I try to relate some particular scene from one of them to a friend, I often falter on the exact film and if I've even remembered the scene properly.  Like some kind of Nyquil fever dream, the nightmarish details of these films shamelessly blend so thoroughly with one another, I can't think of another area of film where that happens on that level.  Ok.....porn, probably.  ...and Adam Sandler movies.
That's my driver's license picture....I hate that picture!"

Actually reviewed the film a few months back.  Its not at all a bad shocker/cannibal film.  It has some good gore; a guy gets eaten by insects, Catherine buries her parent's heads, etc.

I saw this on a weird double feature DVD with something called "caligula reincarnated as hitler" which turned out to be a  mediocre print of "the gestapos last orgy"  probably the sickest movie I've ever seen.
