THE WICKER MAN (2006)

A tradition my mate Chris and I have, whenever we end up with the chance, I set up my projector TV and we watch really bad movies (either which happen to be on TV or which I've managed to get my hands on) and have our own little MST3K style 'peanut gallery' commentary over it. The most recent one we did was the interesting looking American remake of the English classic The Wicker Man, which the ma foolishly picked up, expecting it to be good, when she wanted something to watch.

So, who else has seen this? It's not exactly a terrible movie, definitely not MST3K bad, but it was still a hoot to make fun of because it was so rediculous and badly thought out.

A few things worth mentioning:
- Nicholas Cage's range of two different facial expressions: Concerned, and more concerned.
- Nick Cage, the anti-mask cop.
- He has to be sacrificed at the ceremony tomorrow, but I'll trap him in this well.
- Ellen Burstyn does Braveheart.
- That's right, we took the bullets out of your gun at that time when you were unaware!
- He's the sacrifice, but we have to make him suffer first, for some reason!
- "NO! NOT THE [awful computer generated] BEES!! AAAAGH!!! MY EYESSS!!!!"

I like the thing on YouTube where someone put together all of the "good" parts from the pointless Wicker Man remake and the video ended up being only 3 minutes long. It's laugh out loud funny.

Link, please. I was going to ramble a while on how I hated this movie, but I think my signature will suffice.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

I believe this is the correct link.  They have you tube blocked at my work place but this is the one that I had on my favorites.

Well that video's actually showing all the best unintentionally funny parts, not the 'good' parts.

That's why I put the word "good" in quotes.

I've seen the remake. It was passable. It's not a patch on the original, but I never have seen the original, so as I said, the remake was passable.

What I will say, is that like alot of people who remake films, the people who did this remake, seemingly, had no idea as to what made the original such a great film. And that was,  that in the original, you had a struggle between Christianity, represented by Edward Woodward, and paganism, represented by Christopher Lee.
All of which seemed to have been jetisoned from the remake.

Passable like a kidney stone. . .  This one, along with this year's utterly inept The Invasion, will be the first recipient of Wtf-Film's hitherto unused Zor Award.

There's a lot going wrong in The Wicker Man, critically, but my biggest gripe has to be that the producers/writers/director felt it necessary to completely excise the festivity and happiness that pervades much of the original's running time.  That happiness is a big part of what makes the depravity at the original film's end so disturbing. . .

I just found myself cheering for the crazy bee people in the remake.

Kindest regards,

I will not see this, and frankly, don't expect to see anything with Nicholas Cage any time soon.

I only hope the authors of the original got a cut.

See the original, every conscious movie fan seriously has to see the original.

I thought Ghost Rider was pretty fun though.
