I went to Hollywood Video the other day and I was browsing around the horror section when I came across this blatant rip off of Friday the 13th.

Bloody Murder. Its about this homicidal crazy-head who wears a hockey mask and goes around killing camp councilers at a summer camp in the middle of the woods. Any resemblance?

And look at the sequel! It looks like a Halloween rip off!

And look at this! haha! I mean, is this for REAL?!

Is there any other cheesy off-brand slasher flicks out there? And more importantly, are they any good? Even laughable?

Okay, first off, "Sleepaway Camp II" is a PARODY of eighties slasher films. There is one sitution that evolves characters dressing up as Freddy and Jason before the killer, dressed as Leatherface, disposes of them. And, in my opinion, "SCII" is pretty much the greatest eigthies slasher film EVER!

The "Bloody Murder" series are pieces of crap though and pretty blatant rip-offs. Anything from the DTV company The Asylum is a blatant rip-off of a popular film. Some of thier recent releases include "Trans-Morphers" "I Am Omega" and "Snakes on a Train." Some of their slasher rip-offs include "Whena A Killer Calls," Halloween Night" or "Hill Side Murders."

Though a pretty decent slasher, "Sorority House Massacre" is a blatant copy of "Halloween" in just about every way. "Friday the 13th Part II" rip-offs Mario Bava's "Twitch of a Death Nerve" in several scenes. "Hitchhike" imitates "Last House on the Left" at every possible angle. And of course the original "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th" have a great deal to owe to the original "Black Christmas."

I know a lot of people will disagree with this.  But 'Prom Night' is about as big a rip off as you can get.  Half 'Halloween' half 'Carrie' with nothing new added.  I could just see some producers say to each other, "Hey, 'Halloween' and 'Carrie' both made a lot of money - think we can do something with that?"  They even got the same star and looks like the same neighborhood.

I think most slashers can be called rip-offs because there's not really much plot involved, just 1) psycho killer 2)  boobs 3)  blood.  Having said that, I love slashers and don't really care if they're rip-offs, just so they do something interesting with the basic premise.

Some of my favorite off-brand slasher flicks:

Blood Relic - picked this up recently, extremely low budget but I thought it was pretty good.  A slasher is loose in an airplane museum that some kids are fixing up.

Camp Fear - as cheesy as it gets.  Didn't care for it a whole lot, but it was entertaining.  You've got everything from Druid priests to a miniature Stonehenge to the Loch Ness monster.  And a biker gang.

Cheerleader Massacre - not bad.  Not good either.  Fairly average stuff but I liked it.  Slasher stalks girls at a remote mountain cabin.

Cheerleader Camp - too cheesy for it's own good.  Fantastic babes but way too much humor, all of which falls flat.

Christina's House - more of a murder mystery that a straight slasher, but I found it highly entertaining.  Everyone at Christina's house keeps getting killed, who's doing it?

Hell Night - now this is a classic.  Great suspense and atmosphere.  A slasher stalks college initiates at a spooky old mansion.

House on Sorority Row - I didn't care for this much, but most people seem to like it.  Slasher stalks girls at a sorority house.

The Initiation - takes forever to get going, but once it does, I really enjoyed it.  Slasher stalks kids at a shopping center during a college initiation.

Jigsaw - One of Full Moon's better recent efforts.  Slasher stalks kids who are gathered at a bar to discuss their college art project.  Good characters.

The Majorettes - First half is a slasher, second half is more like a teenage version of a Death Wish movie.  Pretty good overall, though I would have preferred they would have made a straight slasher out of it.  Actually based on a novel.

Shredder - slasher stalks kids at a remote mountain ski lodge.  Good characters, black humor, somewhat annoying sountrack.

Slumber Party Massacre - I love this one.  Pretty slow moving at first, but it's a classic from the '80s.

Slumber Party Massacre 3 - this was okay.  Pretty ordinary slasher but not without its charms.

Sorority House Massacre - beginning and end sort of suck, but the middle is quite good.

Sorority House Massacre 2 - Nighty Nightmare.  This is probably my favorite slasher of all time.  Boobs, boobs, and more boobs!  The atmosphere is awesome (in a very cheesy way), the characters are quite likable, and they make good use of what was obviously a very limited budget.

Hard To Die - the too-cheesy sequel to Slumber Party Massacre 2.  Basically a remake of the first movie, but set in a different location.  Just a bit too silly for my tastes, but I've watched it twice so it couldn't be all that bad.
The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion.

What, no love for Slumber Party Massacre 2 and its leather-clad, rockabilly, singing dancer killer with his drill/guitar combo? That movie is freaking insane bats**t awesome and is definately the best of that series. (Though the, ah-hum, charms of "Sorority House Massacre 2" are hard to pass up.)

FYI,Cheerleader Massacre is also called Slumber Party Massacre 4, just thought i`d throw that in.

I've seen Bloody Murder 2 at my local Blockbuster, but insted of a Halloween-ripoff the picture on the box is of the killer wielding a meathook a la I Know What You Did Last Summer ...

It's not slasher-movie related but has anyone noticed there's a bunch of Species copycats around now? (Candy Stripers, Decoys, etc.)

I love the bloody murder films. There's a pretty good following for them too (a forum and website). They were fun cheese.

A movie a lot of people forget is Offerings, a ripoff of Halloween almost 100%.
