I'm looking for a movie about a group of kids who build their own ship and travel through space in it. They end up in some ship (or possibly on a planet) and meet some aliens. It turns out that the aliens are friendly.

Does anyone know the title?

Thanks!

That sounds like Explorers.
It stars a very young Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix.

I'll chime in here as well and say that it is without a doubt Explorers.  Watched that film uncountable times in my youth.

Darn tootin'! That's the first movie that popped into my head as well. It's still one of my favorites after all these years and goes well with a viewing of "The Last Starfighter."  :teddyr:
