At my undergrad college, Groundhog Day was the premier drinking event of the social season, basically a week long keg party in the woods ending in drunken debauchery on Feb 2.  To my recollection no one ever paid any attention to whether the groundhog saw his shadow. Years later, I still have an instinctive hangover on Feb 3, even when I drink nothing the night before.
