The Burgomaster

1940s and 50s film star Gloria DeHaven is top-billed as Ginny, a biologist working in a small, rural town.  She helps other over-the-hill actors Aldo Ray, Marshall Thompson, and Leo Gordon hunt and capture blood-drinking creatures living at the bottom of Bog Lake.

You would probably need to go all the way back to ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES to find a movie of this kind as bad as this one.  There's plenty of sitting around and talking and not much action.  The creatures are mostly off-screen until the final 20 minutes or so.  And when they finally show up, the camera work and editing are so bad you can hardly see what they look like.  This is probably intentional because they are obviously actors in poorly-constructed rubber suits.  As far as I could tell, they sort of resemble a cross between bigfoot, the sea monsters from THE HORROR OF PARTY BEACH, and a crab with huge eyes (?????)

Here's an example of the awful dialogue in this stinker:

Ginny: "It looks fish-like."

Dr. Warren (an ichthyologist): "Let me decide what looks fish-like."

Ginny:  "That's why we called our favorite ichthyologist!"

The tag line on the DVD box is "Who's the bait now?"  I guess the answer is idiots like me who bought this insufferably bad movie.
"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

HAHAHA! i just watched this movie for the third time the other night. i tihnk it is hilarious though it is often tedious, but man oh man does it suck. take a look at the dvd art. there are pictures of monster that actually look half decent but are nowhere to be found in the movie! what i want to know is what movie is it from?

Bog is good for a laugh or two.
Not that it would make the movie any better but I still think it deserves a better DVD presentation though. The budget release from 805 is nothing but a bad rip from the old VHS tape. I recall reading once that the original aspect ratio was 2.35:1.

I depend upon this site to alert me to really awful films . . . that I may enjoy!
I love cheese-ridden monsters, ESPECIALLY bad rubber suits!
Sounds like a good one for $.99 Rental Night . . .

I have no idea what this means.
