Has anyone checked out Before the Devil Knows You're Dead? I've been kinda wanting to watch it, but its one of those that I'm iffy about..
So if anyone has seen it, let me know what you thought of it. Is it as violent as it promises? It seems anymore when i come across a film that has so much hype, it usually turns out to be dull or drags off into a random streams of tangents.. kinda like Clean Shaven, which turned out to be a really great movie in the end, but when i watched it, i got so tired of waiting for something to happen that i almost turned off the dvd several times before finishing it. I just don't like it when movies have such a huge hype then it just ultimately leads to disappointment. I get the impression that Before the Devil Knows You're Dead could be really great, but in the back of my mind, i just feel as if it may be a disappointment.
Society, exactly as it now exists is the ultimate expression of sadomasochism in action.
-boyd rice-
On the screen, there\\\'s a death and the rustle of cloth; and a sickly voice calling me handsome...
-Nick Cave-

It's a very good film. Yes, it's violent, but violent in a laconic, matter of fact way rather than in blood squibs going out every few minutes. If you've seen previous Lumet films you'll understand what I mean, he doesn't go for the pyrothecnics, he prefers to deliver solid if unespectacular movies.

It's as much a thriller as it is a drama. The plot twists are priceless, if not too original, but what really makes the film pack a punch is the detail that goes into each character, as well as the acting.

I highly recommend it.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.
