Do you speak with an accent?

I used to....but it kept me typecast as mad doctors and vampires. 

Now I sound like a cross between NY and midwest. When I swear,I sound NY. When I talk normally,plain ol' midwest.

My daughter jokes with me because instead of  "WASHINGTON" I say it like this "WARSHINGTON" with the "R" and I say the same thing when I say "wash" it's "warsh". Not sure if this is part of my Western New York accent or just plaiin stupidity on my part.

Oh yeah. My dad says "warsh." Garage is "graj." The days of the week are "Mundie, Choosdie, Wensdie, Tursdie, Fridie, Sairdie and Sundie." It's not really the typical accent in that part of the country. I kind of think it might have been a regional thing and maybe a generational thing too. He grew up on a farm in a very rural area in the 30s and 40s.

My father has a tendency to say certain words differently and he's from the midwest Granted I'm not sure if that has something to do with it though so maybe someone can verify if it does or not.  He says "Tagar" for Tiger.  He says Italian while pronouncing the "I" after the "L" so it comes out "Ital-ee-yan".  I noticed my late uncle did that too.  Once he told me they went to the Olive garden but pronoucned it "Ol-ee-ve Gard-een". 

Personally, I'm standard American broadcast.  I did go to school for broadcsating but I pretty much have talked this way most of my life.  I do have a tendency to mumble at times.  Depends on how tired I am.

Mine is definitely southern, but not as pronounced as it was when I was young. Most people who try to cover up there accent have a tendency to slip back into it during times of stress of tiredness.

My mother was big time country and sounded sort of like Loretta Lynn.

When I was stationed in Scotland I got used to enunciating my words well to be understood, and then when I came home to Arkansas my brothers took to calling me a Yankee.

My old landlord was from Boston and very much had that accent.  Made conversations fun. 

Any accent is better than that Fargo type of accent though.  Except Jersey.
